RN STUDENT NURSE EXTERN

AMG Specialty Hospital - Houma is hiring a Student Nurse Extern to gain clinical experience in a Long-Term Acute Care Hospital setting. This paid, temporary position is designed for nursing students in their final year to transition into practice as a graduate nurse. You will work under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse preceptor, providing direct patient care to adults 18 and older while developing clinical competencies within established hospital policies and protocols.

This program includes a structured 3-month shadow experience with an RN, followed by a transition into a CNA role until graduation. All clinical procedures must be validated for skill competency by your RN preceptor before performance.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care appropriate to your training and competency level under RN supervision
• Participate in patient care utilizing hospital technologies and interventions under RN direction
• Work collaboratively with the RN preceptor to develop clinical skills and nursing competencies
• Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and protocols

Required Qualifications

• Currently enrolled and in the final year of nursing school (enrollment must be maintained or position will be forfeited)
• Written reference from nursing instructor
• Unofficial transcript
• Good academic standing in nursing school (documentation required)
• BLS Certification
• Completion of New Employee Orientation

Schedule

• Minimum 24 hours per month during the initial 3-month shadow period
• Minimum 12 hours per month following the shadow period
• Hours determined on an individual basis with nursing school as a priority
