Job Description

CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital – San Marcos is seeking a Registered Nurse for the ICU Medical-Surgical A unit on a per diem as-needed basis. This position offers the flexibility of PRN scheduling while providing direct patient care in a critical care setting.

Clinical Setting

The ICU Medical-Surgical A unit serves patients requiring intensive monitoring and complex care. CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital – San Marcos is a 700+ associate facility with over 300 active and consulting physicians. The hospital is a Certified Chest Pain Center and accredited Primary Stroke Center, and leads the region in da Vinci robotic-assisted surgery.

Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care utilizing the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation for assigned patients
  • Address increasingly complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families
  • Administer medications and treatments according to protocol; monitor for side effects and treatment effectiveness
  • Document patient history, symptoms, medications, and care provided
  • Assess patient and family learning needs and provide appropriate education
  • Make appropriate assignments and delegate to other care providers to manage clinical situations
  • Meet expectations of OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders

Required Qualifications

  • Current RN license in the state of employment or compact state
  • Current BLS certification (AHA or Red Cross) at time of hire
  • Current ACLS certification

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in nursing
  • One year of experience in a critical care setting
  • New graduates are accepted

Onboarding and Competency Requirements

All newly hired experienced RNs must attend New Nurses Orientation within the first 30 days of hire. New hires will be precepted by a designated trained staff member. Initial on-boarding requirements are validated through successful completion of organizational entry competency validation and Critical Care Department-specific competency validation. All annual competency verification requirements must be completed.

Credential Grace Periods

Grace periods to obtain required certifications depend on your experience level:

For Experienced Associates (at least one year of acute care clinical experience in a similar service line within the past three years):

  • ACLS: within 30 days of hire
  • PALS: within 30 days of hire
  • TNCC: within 60 days of hire
  • TCAR: within 60 days of hire
  • NRP: within 30 days of hire
  • AWHONN Intermediate FHM: within 30 days of hire
  • STABLE: within 30 days of hire

For New Graduates and Experienced Associates New to the Specialty:

  • ACLS: within 90 days of hire
  • PALS: within 90 days of hire
  • TNCC: within 18 months of hire
  • TCAR: within 18 months of hire
  • NRP: within 60 days of hire
  • AWHONN Intermediate FHM: within 60 days of hire
  • STABLE: within 60 days of hire

Schedule

  • 7 PM to 7 AM shifts
