Geisinger Cancer Center in Dickson City is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Hematology/Oncology Division. This per diem position offers flexible scheduling with hours between 7:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., working as needed on a part-time basis. Cancer experience is strongly preferred for this role.

Responsibilities

  • Complete patient assessments according to scope of practice and unit standards
  • Address physical, psychological, social, cultural, and spiritual needs of patients and families throughout the continuum of care
  • Formulate, coordinate, and provide plans of care including patient and family education in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team
  • Provide direct patient care including treatments, medications, and diagnostic studies according to policy and procedure
  • Collect and prepare laboratory specimens and complete associated paperwork
  • Access implanted venous access devices for labs and infusions
  • Insert, monitor, regulate, and discontinue IVs as required by provider orders
  • Administer and dispose of chemotherapy according to regulatory guidelines
  • Document chemotherapy administration
  • Administer and follow related research protocols
  • Evaluate effectiveness of nursing interventions and revise the plan of care based on patient response
  • Initiate collaboration with physicians, ancillary personnel, and interdisciplinary team members to resolve and facilitate patient needs
  • Troubleshoot and take corrective measures in the care and handling of equipment
  • Participate in unit-based decision-making regarding evidence-based practice
  • Work as an active team member toward unit and organizational goals and metrics
  • Participate in patient quality and safety education programs and activities designed to improve departmental and organizational quality and safety

Clinical Setting

Work is typically performed in a clinical environment. You will be accountable for satisfying all job-specific obligations and complying with all organizational policies and procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate from a Specialty Training Program in Nursing
  • Active Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) license in Pennsylvania
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience
  • Cancer care experience
