The opportunity

Job Description

This is a full-time float pool nursing position working the night shift (7 PM - 7 AM) in medical-surgical, telemetry, and intermediate care settings. As a float nurse, you will be assigned to multiple units based on patient care needs and organizational staffing requirements. You will provide routine and complex nursing care to patients across these clinical areas, demonstrating flexibility and proactive availability for assignments.

Clinical Setting

You will work in medical-surgical, telemetry, and intermediate care units, caring for patients with varying acuity levels and clinical needs. The role requires the ability to adapt to different unit environments and patient populations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care utilizing the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation for assigned patients
  • Address increasingly complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families
  • Administer medications and treatments using appropriate protocols; monitor for side effects and treatment effectiveness
  • Document patient history, symptoms, medications, and care provided
  • Assess patient and family learning needs and provide education; identify issues and resources
  • Anticipate and plan for admission, discharge, and transfer needs to facilitate patient flow
  • Utilize appropriate communication systems and tools to support the discharge process
  • Incorporate patient safety practices and guidelines to promote a safe environment
  • Demonstrate accountability for nursing research and quality improvement activities
  • Provide evidence-based nursing care and communicate patient information effectively across the continuum of care
  • Make appropriate assignments and delegate to other care providers as needed to manage clinical situations
  • Proactively provide assignment availability on a regular basis
  • Demonstrate flexibility in assignment within the ministry

Required Qualifications

  • Active RN license in state of employment or compact license
  • Minimum 2 years of combined experience in medical-surgical, telemetry, and intermediate care nursing
  • BLS certification
  • ACLS certification
  • PALS certification (required if assigned to CHRISTUS Children's Hospital)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in nursing
  • 5 years of nursing experience
