Join UAB Medicine's Cardiovascular Operating Room as a Registered Nurse First Assistant (Non-Certified). In this full-time AM shift position, you will collaborate with cardiovascular surgeons and the healthcare team to ensure safe operations and optimal patient outcomes during the intraoperative phase of cardiovascular perioperative care. You will practice cardiovascular perioperative nursing, applying specialized knowledge, skills, and clinical judgment specific to cardiovascular surgical practice.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with and work at the direction of the cardiovascular surgeon
- Perform first assisting duties in the cardiovascular operating room
- Provide safe intraoperative nursing care with focus on optimal patient outcomes
- Work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary healthcare team
- Apply cardiovascular perioperative nursing knowledge and skills
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing
- Two years of cardiovascular operating room (CVOR) experience as a scrub nurse or circulating nurse
- Currently licensed or eligible to be licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing
- Currently certified with Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA)
- Proof of enrollment in a National Institute of First Assisting (NIFA) Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN) approved RNFA program or in an AORN-compliant RNFA program at time of hire
- Must obtain letters from Operating Room administration and surgeon supporting remaining first assisting hours needed to complete RNFA program
- Must obtain certificate of completion of RNFA program within eight weeks if full-time employee or four months if part-time employee
- Credentialed as a Certified Registered Nurse First Assistant (CRNFA) by the Competency and Credentialing Institute (CCI) within three years from the date of employment
Preferred Qualifications
- Currently certified with Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA)
