The opportunity

Job Description

UCHealth is seeking an RN PICC/Vascular Access specialist for the UCHealth Anschutz Inpatient Pavilion in Aurora, Colorado. This position provides specialized vascular access services to patients, assessing and identifying appropriate vascular access devices using the nursing process in accordance with organizational policies, values, and standards of practice.

Clinical Setting

This is an onsite role within the UCH IV PICC department. The position does not offer hybrid or remote options.

Responsibilities

  • Assess patients for appropriate vascular access devices in collaboration with the patient care team to optimize care based on medications, access status, diagnosis, and length of IV therapy
  • Place peripherally inserted central catheters, midlines, and ultrasound-guided IVs, or recommend alternative means of access
  • Troubleshoot complications with vascular access devices
  • Document vascular access information and actions in the electronic health record
  • Evaluate learning needs of staff, patients, and families and provide education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances
  • Effectively delegate patient care to ancillary personnel
  • May precept student nurses, new hires, or providers
  • Work with critical thinking skills and decisive judgment with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment

Required Qualifications

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Minimum 6 months of nursing (RN) experience
  • BLS certification through the American Heart Association or CPR for the Professional Rescuer through the American Red Cross, with card in-hand before start date; certification must be valid through at least 60 days after hire
  • Graduate of an accredited or state board of nursing approved Registered/Professional Nursing program if less than 3 years' experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1 or more years of PICC/vascular access experience, or ICU or ED RN experience

Schedule

  • Full-time position
  • 72 hours per pay period (2 weeks)
  • Night shift

Compensation

  • $37.06 - $57.44 per hour, dependent on relevant experience
