RN PICC team FT Days

Northwest Medical Center is seeking a full-time RN for the Vascular Access (PICC) team working 10-hour day shifts. This role focuses on providing specialized nursing care to higher acuity patients requiring Peripherally Inserted Central Catheters (PICC lines) in a dynamic acute care setting.

As a PICC RN, you will determine the best vascular access for patients based on their medications, diagnosis, length of hospital stay, and home IV therapy needs. You will report directly to the patient's primary nurse and/or physician as needed, troubleshoot and declot vascular access devices, and serve as a resource to nursing staff. You will provide education regarding vascular access to patients, families, and staff members.

Responsibilities

• Determine optimal vascular access for patients based on clinical assessment and treatment needs
• Obtain patient consent and complete Cerner documentation
• Evaluate assigned patients and plan, implement, and document nursing care using the nursing process
• Troubleshoot and declot vascular access devices or assist staff as a resource
• Provide patient and family education on vascular access and related care
• Assist physicians during examinations and procedures
• Conduct thorough patient assessments and document findings accurately
• Administer prescribed medications and monitor for side effects
• Collaborate with the healthcare team to develop and implement individualized care plans
• Respond to medical emergencies and participate in life-saving interventions such as CPR and code team activities
• Advocate for patient rights and needs in care planning and delivery
• Implement and adhere to infection control protocols
• Monitor and operate medical equipment as needed for patient care and safety
• Promote patient safety by adhering to National Patient Safety Goals
• Participate in audits, chart reviews, and compliance checks
• Engage in professional development to maintain clinical competency
• Participate in performance improvement initiatives
• Maintain regular and reliable attendance and comply with all policies and standards

Schedule

• Full-time position
• 10-hour day shifts

Required Qualifications

• 1-2 years of experience in a clinical nursing role in an acute care setting
• Active state RN licensure or compact state licensure
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification

Required Skills and Knowledge

• Strong knowledge of the nursing process and clinical nursing practices
• Ability to perform thorough patient assessments and communicate findings effectively
• Proficiency in administering medications and monitoring for side effects
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in documenting patient care
• Knowledge of safety standards, infection control, and quality improvement initiatives
