RN - NIAS (PICC) - Jeff Hwy - NIGHTS Full time

Ochsner Health is seeking a Registered Nurse for the NIAS (PICC) unit on Jeff Highway, working nights on a full-time basis. In this role, you will provide direct patient care using the nursing process while serving as a leader and partner on the interdisciplinary team. You will assess patient learning needs, implement appropriate teaching strategies, delegate and manage nursing team resources, and use data to evaluate and promote positive change in patient outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Deliver patient care using the nursing process within the framework of the Nurse Practice Act, ANA Code for Nurses, and Scope & Standards of Practice
• Assess patient and family learning needs and implement teaching strategies appropriate for diverse populations
• Effectively delegate, direct, and assist licensed and ancillary team members
• Communicate and manage nursing team resources (human and fiscal) as a leader and partner on the interdisciplinary team
• Use data, information, and knowledge to evaluate and promote change to achieve optimal patient outcomes
• Maintain involvement in activities aimed toward achievement of unit and departmental strategic goals and objectives
• Demonstrate professional responsibility and accountability for your own practice
• Remain knowledgeable on current federal, state, and local laws, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements applicable to your area of responsibility
• Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and standards
• Report any known or suspected unethical or questionable behaviors, patient or employee safety concerns, or privacy violations

Required Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
• Current registered nurse (RN) license in your state of practice
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association
• Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications
• Effective verbal and written communication skills with ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals
• Excellent organizational and time management skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in nursing
• Certification in clinical specialty area

Physical and Environmental Demands

This position requires heavy work, including exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally and 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently. Duties routinely involve exposure to blood, body fluid, and tissue. You will work in a patient care area with direct patient contact and may handle specimens that could contain communicable diseases. There is occupational risk for exposure to all communicable diseases and potential exposure to hazardous medications or hazardous waste through receipt, transport, storage, preparation, dispensing, administration, cleaning, and disposal of contaminated waste.
