RN, Adult Operating Room

Join the South Operating Room (SOR) at OHSU, Oregon's only public academic health center and a Level 1 Trauma Operating Room. This position offers intraoperative nursing care in a large, primarily adult inpatient OR with 25 suites supporting approximately 14,000 cases annually across diverse surgical specialties.

Clinical Setting

The South Operating Room is the main OR at OHSU, operating 24 hours per day, 7 days a week with an elective schedule 7 days per week in addition to acute urgent and emergent care. The department handles approximately 50 cases per day Monday through Friday and 16 cases per day on weekends. Primary service lines include Cardiothoracic, General Surgery, Surgical Oncology, Colorectal, Bariatric, Gynecology, Oral Maxillofacial, Neurosurgery, Spine, Orthopedic, Otolaryngology, Plastics, Transplant, Urology, Vascular, Gender Affirmation, and Trauma. You will provide intraoperative care for populations ranging from early adolescents to geriatric patients with occasional pediatric patients, across the full acuity spectrum from elective to emergency surgery.

Responsibilities

• Provide intraoperative nursing care for acutely and critically ill patients
• Deliver evidence-based care in a team-oriented environment
• Exercise independent scope of practice and engage in dependent scope of practice decision making with the surgical team
• Provide patient and family-centered care across the full spectrum of surgical illnesses

Required Qualifications

• One year of intraoperative RN experience
• Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing (BSN) from a program accredited by CCNE, ACEN, or CNEA, OR Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited program
• Current, unencumbered Oregon State Registered Nurse License
• BLS certification from AHA (new hires will be enrolled and required to complete during orientation)
• Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation

Note: Associate degree nurses are required to enroll in a BSN program within 3 years of hire and complete within 5 years of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

• CVOR (Certified Vascular Operating Room) experience
• CNOR (Certified Nurse Operating Room) certification

Orientation

Experienced nurses receive approximately one week of OHSU and Nursing New Employee Orientation (NEO), followed by 3 days to 26 weeks of orientation experience depending on the care area.
