Vanderbilt University Medical Center is seeking a Registered Nurse for the 6N Neuro/Epilepsy unit, a 40-bed inpatient nursing area located in Nashville, Tennessee. In this role, you will apply the nursing process to plan and implement comprehensive patient care, including patient and family education and continuum of care planning. You will work with patients experiencing neurological conditions and epilepsy, collaborating with an interdisciplinary healthcare team to establish and achieve patient-centered goals.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate in establishing the plan of care, coordinate and implement care delivery while anticipating patient care needs across the continuum
  • Analyze comprehensive information pertinent to the patient's care and management to determine nursing diagnoses
  • Continually utilize the nursing process to evaluate patient progress toward goals and apply appropriate interventions to ensure effective outcomes
  • Employ strategies to promote health and a safe and healthy environment
  • Effectively communicate pertinent patient and family information to the healthcare team
  • Provide patient and family education
  • Participate in continuum of care planning

Required Qualifications

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Graduate of an approved nursing program
  • Relevant work experience

Technical Capabilities

This position requires novice-level proficiency in the following areas:

  • Evidence-Based Practice: Ability to search for evidence to answer clinical questions, generally working under the direction of others
  • Care Planning: Ability to anticipate resource needs, identify distinct tasks, set priorities, schedule activities, meet deadlines, and organize work. Competently handle multiple assignments by prioritizing work into manageable units and adapt to changes with minimal disruption
  • Nursing Patient Education: Fundamental proficiency in providing patient education in practical applications of moderate difficulty
  • Nursing Patient Assessment and Evaluation: Ability to assess and evaluate patients in practical applications of moderate difficulty, conduct patient interviews and physical examinations, recognize problems, and contact the patient's primary care provider and other healthcare team members as needed
