Registered Nurse

Valley Medical Center is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Joint & Spine Center - Orthopedics department at VMC Main Campus in Renton, WA. This full-time position (0.9 FTE) offers day shift hours and provides an excellent opportunity to deliver safe, quality care to orthopedic and spine patients using the nursing process as the foundation for clinical practice.

Clinical Setting

You will work in the Joint & Spine Center - Orthopedics, providing direct patient care and assuming responsibility and accountability for a group of patients during your assigned shift. The role involves comprehensive patient assessment, care coordination, and collaboration with the interdisciplinary healthcare team.

Responsibilities

• Assess, guide, direct, and facilitate workflow on the unit
• Provide direct patient care utilizing the nursing process
• Monitor and evaluate nursing care given to each patient through direct observation, consultation, and patient rounds
• Assess unit and environmental safety during patient rounds and report or correct deficiencies
• Maintain awareness of Joint Commission standards, state codes, and practice acts
• Demonstrate excellent customer service skills and respond to patient and family concerns or complaints
• Report significant events to administrative supervisors or managers and activate the chain of command per policy
• Communicate and collaborate with the care team to ensure efficient patient placement and care coordination
• Maintain competencies for direct patient care and team leadership
• Participate in safe patient handling as defined by VMC's Safe Patient Handling guidelines and policies

Physical Demands

This position requires the ability to provide safe patient handling, including safely and appropriately transferring or moving patients of varying abilities and weights. You must be able to lift from floor to overhead levels and carry items at waist level weighing up to 40 pounds. The role requires participation in team lifting, operation of patient lifting equipment and handling devices, and the ability to stoop, bend, reach, crouch, and squat. You will stand and walk for extensive periods as required for patient care, hourly rounding, bedside shift report, and other nursing duties. Full body range of motion, manual and finger dexterity, eye-hand coordination, corrected vision, hearing to normal range, and ability to distinguish colors are required.

Required Qualifications

• Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Washington
• Successful completion of a graduate nurse residency program orientation or six months of experience as a Registered Nurse
• Current BLS certification through American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• Orthopedic certification within 3 years of hire
• Minimum of one year of medical-surgical experience preferred

Education and Licenses

• BSN preferred
• Active Washington State RN license required

Certifications

• BLS certification (American Heart Association or American Red Cross) required
• Orthopedic certification required within 3 years of hire

Schedule and Compensation

• Full-time position, 0.9 FTE
• Day shift
• Salary range: $48.82 - $89.19 per hour, depending on experience
