Registered Nurse Tier I

This position is a Registered Nurse Tier I role requiring substantial specialized knowledge, clinical judgment, and nursing skills. You will apply the nursing process across your assigned department, collaborating with physicians and multidisciplinary team members to provide physical and psychological support to patients, families, and friends. You will supervise assigned team members and students, and report to the Nurse Supervisor.

Responsibilities

• Complete patient assessments, formulate plans of care, oversee implementation, and evaluate and adjust plans using critical thinking skills
• Perform nursing acts authorized by the board and consistent with American Nursing Association Standards of Practice or nationally accepted standards
• Provide care, counseling, and health teaching using Teach Back methodology to confirm patient comprehension
• Administer medications, intravenous therapy, and treatments as prescribed by a licensed independent practitioner
• Supervise, delegate, and follow through with other personnel performing nursing care activities
• Mentor and precept students and orient new staff as assigned
• Report pertinent information up the chain of command to the Clinical Nurse Manager, Nurse Manager, or House Nurse Coordinator
• Participate on various teams, committees, and performance improvement initiatives
• Ensure a safe and secure environment for patients, coworkers, and yourself
• Participate in discharge planning and transition of care, identifying patient needs
• Serve as a patient advocate and escalate patient-related concerns in a timely manner
• Document pertinent findings in the medical record promptly
• Assist patients with activities of daily living and function as an active team member
• Take responsibility for your own professional development
• Use effective communication and active listening skills, demonstrating compassionate and empathetic attitudes
• Practice Hands Off communication using SBAR; perform bedside shift reporting using SBAR unless otherwise directed
• Function as a positive influence and role model, adhering to professional code of conduct
• Respect the dignity and confidentiality of all patient-related matters
• Perform other job duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

• Associate's Degree in Nursing
• Registered Nurse license
• BLS certification upon hire
• De-Escalation Training within 6 months of hire
• Mastery of problem-solving and decision-making skills
• Mastery of collaboration and teamwork
• Mastery of growth mindset skills (agility and developing yourself and others)
• Mastery of execution and delivery skills (planning, delivering, and supporting)
• Ability to consider relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one
• Ability to function in clinical settings with diverse cultural dynamics of clinical staff and patients
• Mastery knowledge of phases of care transitions and available resources for patients
• Mastery of digital literacy skills
• Advanced Dysrhythmia/EKG certification (required for Med/Surg telemetry unit only)
