This position is a Registered Nurse Supervisor role in a 14-bed Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) specializing in high-acuity adult patients. The unit handles a fast-paced, high-volume patient population including sepsis, respiratory failure, ARDS, post-cardiac arrest cases, drug overdose, DKA with severe acidosis, post-surgical complications, necrotizing fasciitis, post-thrombolytic stroke care, seizures, and alcohol withdrawal. The unit maintains consistently full bed capacity.

Responsibilities

  • Support the manager in enhancing the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice, nursing service administration, and care delivery in the department
  • Assist with interview, selection, and supervision of nursing personnel
  • Coordinate communication at regular intervals throughout shifts via staff meetings and huddles to exchange information and promote dialogue with teammates
  • Collaborate with the manager to ensure understanding and compliance with federal and state laws, healthcare services regulations, and all required policies
  • Round on patients, teammates, and physicians at prescribed frequencies to assess patient care quality, employee satisfaction, physician satisfaction, and appropriateness of department operations
  • Delegate elements of care to appropriate healthcare workers in accordance with applicable legal or policy parameters
  • Assist in identifying expected outcomes to provide direction for continuity of care and department operations
  • Evaluate progress toward goal attainment and expected outcomes, and disseminate information to teammates involved in care
  • Perform nursing care, assist with treatments, therapies, and procedures, and administer medications as necessary
  • Coordinate management of patient flow and staffing through continuous assessment of volume and acuity needs, utilizing available resources to ensure appropriate staffing

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing
  • Current RN licensure in the appropriate state
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification per policy guidelines
  • Appropriate professional certification (either clinical or leadership) required within one year of eligibility for the professional certification exam

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum two years of nursing experience
  • Previous management experience

Education and Certification Requirements

RN candidates for external hire or internal promotion without a BSN must be enrolled in a BSN program within one year of the hire or transfer date and must complete the program within three years of enrollment.

Physical Requirements

This position requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, stooping, bending, pushing, and pulling. You must be able to lift and support the weight of 35 pounds when handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies. Fluent English speaking and comprehension is required. Intact senses of sight, hearing, smell, and touch are necessary. Finger dexterity, critical thinking, and the ability to concentrate are essential.

Additional Requirements

Additional education, training, certifications, or experience may be required within the department by the nurse leader.
