The opportunity

Job Description

The Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs, Minnesota Veterans Home - Minneapolis is seeking a full-time Registered Nurse Supervisor for the day shift (Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm). This position provides clinical oversight, leadership, and operational supervision of nursing staff to ensure safe, high-quality resident care in compliance with Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and Veterans Affairs (VA) regulations, state laws, and facility policies.

The Minnesota Veterans Home - Minneapolis provides skilled nursing care in a supportive environment for Veterans on a 53-acre wooded campus with nature trails and biking paths overlooking the Mississippi River.

Responsibilities

  • Provide supervision to Registered Nurses (RNs), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), and Human Services Technicians (HST/CNAs)
  • Provide oversight of nursing and clinical services in consultation and collaboration with the Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON)
  • Coordinate the Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) to ensure comprehensive, resident-centered care that meets CMS requirements and professional nursing standards
  • Ensure infection prevention and control practices and safe work standards are consistently implemented to protect residents, staff, and visitors
  • Conduct assessment and planning of resident care needs
  • Provide delivery of skilled procedures according to standards of practice and in accordance with current Federal, State, and Veterans Administration regulations
  • Administer medications and ensure documentation accuracy
  • Foster an inclusive environment of positivity, cohesion, and well-being
  • Develop interpersonal skills, prioritize daily work, guide immediate teams, and provide consistent coaching and feedback to promote employee development
  • Respond to clinical concerns and promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement

Required Qualifications

  • Current Minnesota Registered Nurse License
  • Two (2) years of experience as a Registered Nurse working in a skilled nursing facility AND either: (1) one year of experience leading professional-level nursing staff (charge nurse, lead nurse, or officer of the day), OR (2) six (6) months of experience supervising professional-level nursing staff
  • Knowledge of federal and state regulations related to skilled nursing facilities and state survey
  • Excellent communication skills sufficient to convey information in formal, informal, group, and one-on-one capacities
  • Ability to supervise, coordinate, and direct employees and to develop quality patient care plans
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Ability to understand, interpret, and implement federal and state regulations and MDVA policies and procedures
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification or ability to obtain certification within the probation period

Additional Requirements

  • Successful completion of a Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) background check
  • Tuberculosis (Mantoux) screening or chest x-ray prior to employment
  • Employment reference checks, which may include a review of documentation related to job performance and contact with former employers

Schedule

  • Day shift: 8:00 am - 4:30 pm
  • Monday - Friday
  • No telework
  • No travel required

Compensation and Benefits

  • Hourly rate: $45.01 - $66.81
  • Annual salary: $93,980 - $139,499
  • New hire bonus: $5,000
