The opportunity

Job Description

Vanderbilt Health is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Stepdown Unit in Clarksville on the night shift. This 21-bed hardwired telemetry unit cares for acutely ill but stable patients requiring closer monitoring. You will work with patients presenting a variety of cardiac, vascular, and medical diagnoses including cardiac arrhythmias, bedside cardioversions, titrated medications, oxygenation management, withdrawal, sepsis, stroke, and post-operative care.

Clinical Setting

The Stepdown Unit is a fast-paced, team-oriented environment focused on excellent patient care. The unit operates with a 4:1 patient-to-nurse ratio. Daily interdisciplinary rounds include the provider, registered nurse, case manager, and nurse leader. Each shift begins with a safety huddle to review safety and quality concerns across a 24-hour period.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate in establishing the plan of care and coordinate and implement care delivery while anticipating patient care needs across the continuum
  • Analyze comprehensive information pertinent to the patient's care and management to determine nursing diagnoses
  • Utilize the nursing process to evaluate patient progress toward goals and apply appropriate interventions to ensure effective outcomes
  • Employ strategies to promote health and a safe and healthy environment
  • Participate in multidisciplinary rounding and bedside shift reports
  • Provide patient education and care planning

Schedule

  • Full-time position (36 hours per week)
  • Night shift: 6:45 p.m. to 6:45 a.m.

Required Qualifications

  • Active Tennessee Registered Nurse license
  • BLS certification
  • ACLS certification
  • NIH certification
  • Graduate of an approved nursing program

Orientation

The unit offers an 8-12 week orientation based on nursing experience.

Medical Equipment and Medications

You will work with hardwired ECG monitoring, Alaris infusion pumps, PCA pumps, epidural administration, end-tidal CO2 monitoring, bladder scanners, BiPAP, and high-flow oxygen therapy. Clinical experience includes cardiac drips, IV fluids, blood products, sedation, and TPN administration.

Compensation

New increased night shift differential of $10 per hour for eligible night shift RNs. The employer also offers a current inpatient nursing supplemental pay program.
