Job Description

Questar III BOCES is seeking a full-time School Nurse to provide health services to Exceptional Learning and Special Education students at Paul Puccio School at Maple Hill in Schodack, NY. In this role, you will treat injuries and mild to acute illnesses, support students with chronic health issues, and provide preventive care education on communicable disease prevention and proper hygiene.

Clinical Setting

You will work in a school-based setting serving students with exceptional learning and special education needs. This position works the 10-month school calendar with an option for summer school employment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide basic healthcare to students in case of injury or acute illness
  • Develop health plans for students with chronic illnesses and disabilities
  • Educate students and staff on healthy habits, such as proper nutrition and hygiene
  • Detect health problems in early stages through regular screenings
  • Keep track of students' vaccination records
  • Update students' medical history
  • Ensure school environment is safe for children and school staff, including prevention of communicable diseases
  • Write referrals for pediatricians and other health specialists
  • Ensure compliance with national and local health laws
  • Supervise LPNs employed by Questar III BOCES

Required Qualifications

  • Current New York State RN license
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with special education students
