Patton State Hospital, a forensic psychiatric facility, is hiring Registered Nurses for multiple permanent full-time positions in various programs on the NOC shift. All registered nurses work 12-hour shifts, with hours adjusted as needed to meet operational needs.
Patton is a secure treatment facility that does not accept voluntary admissions. It provides treatment to forensically and civilly committed patients within a secure treatment environment.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care, treatment, and rehabilitation to clients and patients
- Provide direction to other personnel assisting in patient care
- Assist physicians as directed
- Provide general psychiatric nursing care to clients and patients
- Assist in planning and evaluating both physical and mental nursing care of assigned patients
- Take independent action within professional preparation and legal limits
- Assist in training other nursing personnel and ancillary staff as assigned
- Work with other disciplines as part of a treatment team to provide overall treatment program for patients
- Administer oral medications and hypodermic injections
- Perform blood drawing and immunizations
- Assess patient's physical and mental condition and report significant changes to physician and unit supervisor
- Record data in nursing notes
- Prepare and care for patients during treatment
- Provide first aid as necessary
- Perform custody tasks including escorting patients in the facility and in the community
- Search for drugs, contraband, and weapons
- Inspect patients' mail for hazardous material
- Inspect facilities to identify security breaches that could lead to an escape
- Observe and intervene in patient behavior that may injure people, damage property, or signal impending escape attempts
Required Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse license (copy required prior to hire)
- Drug screening clearance prior to hire
- Background investigation clearance prior to hire
- Medical clearance prior to hire
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a forensic and/or psychiatric setting
- Experience administrating psychiatric treatments and psychiatric medications
Schedule
- Permanent, full-time position
- NOC shift with 12-hour shifts
- Hours may be adjusted to meet operational needs
Compensation
- $9,510.00 - $11,335.00 per month
- New to State candidates will be hired at the minimum salary of the classification
