Registered Nurse - Rowley Family Birthing Center Resource Team

Garnet Health Medical Center is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Rowley Family Birthing Center Resource Team. This position supports the labor and delivery and mother-baby care services, providing nursing care guided by the American Nurses Association standards, Jean Watson's Nursing Philosophy and Science of Caring, and evidence-based practice principles.

Clinical Setting

The Rowley Family Birthing Center serves patients throughout the labor, delivery, and postpartum periods, including mother-baby care for low-risk newborns. As a resource team member, you will support clinical operations and patient care delivery in this specialty setting.

Responsibilities

• Provide safe, timely, effective, equitable, and patient-centered care to laboring patients, postpartum patients, and newborns
• Establish caring relationships that facilitate health and healing
• Assess and respond to the range of human experiences related to pregnancy, labor, delivery, and postpartum recovery
• Integrate assessment data with clinical knowledge to inform nursing diagnosis and treatment
• Apply critical thinking and clinical judgment in patient care decisions
• Recognize the importance of patient and staff safety precautions specific to the birthing center environment
• Consistently utilize safety precautions and follow appropriate procedures to enhance patient and staff safety
• Identify and report potentially dangerous situations that could cause medical error or patient or staff harm
• Take immediate action to minimize risk of injury when appropriate to your responsibilities
• Report errors to your supervisor and in the MIDAS RDE system on an incident report
• Participate in root cause analysis and other efforts to reduce medical error and patient or staff harm when appropriate
• Complete annual and required mandatory training within specified timeframes

Required Qualifications

• Active New York State Registered Nurse license in good standing
• Associate, Baccalaureate, Master's, or Doctorate degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing
• Recent inpatient labor and delivery or mother-baby experience within the past 5 years
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, kept current
• Ability to perform essential physical functioning demands as determined by Employee Health/Pre-Screening Assessment
• Ability to stand, walk, reach, stoop, bend, kneel, and crouch considerably; considerable visual demands
• Ability to work well under pressure, organize and synthesize new information, and prioritize tasks
• Critical thinking and analytical skills with flexibility to adapt to changing situations
• Ability to multi-task with detailed attention to work in an environment where interruptions cannot be controlled
• Sensitivity to patient needs and expectations

Preferred Qualifications

• Baccalaureate degree in Nursing
• NCC Specialty Certification in Inpatient Obstetrics, Maternal Newborn/Low-risk Newborn, and/or Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM)
• American Nurses Association endorsed certifications or Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses certification

Licenses and Certifications

• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required within 3 months of hire or transfer
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required within 6 months of hire or transfer
• Evidence of Fetal Monitoring course completion required
• Certification in Electronic Fetal Monitoring (C-EFM) required within 36 months after completion of unit orientation

Physical Demands

• Considerable standing, walking, reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching
• Considerable visual demands
• Moderate to frequent heavy lifting, positioning, pushing, and transferring of patients
• Must participate in Safe Patient Handling Initiatives; assistive devices must be used when any caregiver would be required to lift more than 35 lbs of a patient's weight
• Must wear Personal Protective Equipment including gloves, safety glasses, respirators, or coveralls, vests, lead vests, and full body suits as needed
• May be exposed to blood and other potentially infectious materials
• May have contact with chemical, radiological, physical, electrical, mechanical, or other workplace hazards

Working Conditions

• Night shift: 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m., Monday through Sunday
• Three weekend shifts per month (Friday and Saturday)
• Holidays distributed on an equitable basis
• Work schedules may include irregular hours, nights, and weekends
• Subject to varying and unpredictable situations
• May handle emergency and crisis situations
• Garnet Health abides with the New York Department of Labor/Nursing Licensure Board recommendation on the 16-hour work limit

Compensation

• Hourly compensation range: $52.82 to $58.72
• This range does not include bonuses, incentive pay, differential pay, or other forms of compensation or benefits
• Actual compensation determined based on factors such as location, specialty, service line, years of relevant experience, education, credentials, negotiated contracts, budget, and internal equity
