Registered Nurse (RN)/Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)

This position provides direct nursing care to residents in a long-term care facility while supervising the day-to-day nursing activities of nursing assistants. You will work to maintain the highest standards of quality care in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations.

Responsibilities

• Direct the day-to-day functions of nursing assistants and provide leadership to nursing personnel assigned to your unit or shift
• Meet with assigned nursing staff and support personnel to plan shift services, programs, and activities
• Make written and oral reports and recommendations concerning shift activities as required
• Admit, transfer, and discharge residents as required
• Complete and file required record-keeping forms and charts upon resident admission, transfer, and discharge
• Receive and transcribe telephone orders from physicians and record them on the Physician's Order Form
• Chart nurse's notes in an informative and descriptive manner that reflects the care provided and the resident's response to care
• Fill out and complete accident and incident reports and submit to the Director of Nursing as required
• Perform routine charting duties in accordance with established charting and documentation policies and procedures
• Prepare and administer medications as ordered by the physician
• Administer professional nursing services including catheterization, tube feedings, suction, applying and changing dressings and bandages, colostomy and drainage bag care, blood draws, massages, range of motion exercises, and care for the dying and deceased as required
• Develop and maintain good working relationships with interdepartmental personnel and other departments within the facility
• Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the unit and shift
• Receive and give nursing reports at the beginning and end of shift duty hours
• Make rounds with physicians as necessary
• Monitor assigned personnel to ensure they follow established safety regulations in the use of equipment and supplies
• Maintain confidentiality of all resident care information including protected health information
• Report known or suspected incidents of unauthorized disclosure of protected health information
• Ensure that all nursing care is provided in privacy and that nursing service personnel knock before entering resident rooms
• Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

• Current unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) state license
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language
• Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action
• Knowledge of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to nursing care facilities
• Current CPR Certification

• Ability to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet
