Registered Nurse (RN) Weekend Position

This weekend Registered Nurse position is based in a skilled nursing facility providing direct resident care under the general supervision of the Director of Nursing. You will deliver comprehensive nursing care to residents, make clinical decisions regarding care plans, and assume full responsibility for resident care in the absence of the Director of Nursing.

Clinical Setting

You will work in a long-term care skilled nursing facility serving adult and elderly residents with varying medical needs and comorbidities.

Responsibilities

• Administer nursing care according to individualized care plans and regulatory requirements
• Perform resident admission assessments within 24 hours of admission and document findings accurately
• Initiate and update resident care plans within 24 hours of admission, adjusting as resident needs and conditions change
• Conduct reassessments during each shift and when resident condition changes
• Assess and monitor residents for changes in medical status, interpret symptoms, and initiate appropriate nursing interventions
• Administer medications as ordered by physicians, ensuring proper transcription, administration, and documentation
• Maintain current and accurate medication listings and monitor for discontinued or expired medications
• Manage IV therapy safely and document according to policy and procedure
• Perform emergency measures including CPR when needed to stabilize resident condition
• Prioritize resident needs and expedite treatment for acutely ill residents
• Educate residents, families, and significant others regarding treatment, tests, procedures, medications, and safety
• Document all resident care, clinical observations, and reactions in a timely and legible manner
• Report abnormal test results to physicians promptly and triage activities based on findings
• Participate in interdisciplinary team conferences and communicate treatment plan decisions to nursing team members
• Serve as an education resource for staff, sharing information in an accurate and professional manner
• Practice appropriate infection control and isolation techniques to maintain a safe environment
• Write and review progress notes according to policy and procedures
• Participate in performance improvement activities including infection control surveillance, weight management, diabetic management, and pressure ulcer management
• Correct audit deficiencies in medical records within allotted timeframes
• Assume operational responsibility for the unit and personnel in the absence of the Director of Nursing
• Initiate emergency measures in response to facility disasters or threats according to emergency protocols
• Serve as a resident advocate, demonstrating compassion and empathy with residents and families
• Seek out additional duties during slow periods and assist other team members as needed
• Function as a role model for LVNs, CNAs, and other team members
• Maintain a positive attitude toward all team members and residents and support facility policies and procedures

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Current licensure as a Registered Nurse by the State of California
• Current CPR certification
• IV certification
• Long-term care experience, preferably in a skilled nursing setting
• Ability to speak, read, and write English effectively
• Emotional maturity, reliability, tact, integrity, and good judgment
• Strong problem-solving skills with ability to plan, organize, and execute work activities independently
• Ability to interact effectively with team members, residents, families, and visitors
• Knowledge of accreditation and licensing standards as they apply to resident care and safety
• Knowledge of and ability to practice infection control techniques and standard precautions
• Tuberculosis test at time of hire and annually thereafter

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• Work primarily involves standing, walking, twisting, reaching, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and carrying/lifting up to 40 lbs. occasionally, up to 25 lbs. frequently, and up to 10 lbs. regularly
• Frequent and extended use of arm, leg, and back muscles
• Regular use of both hands and legs
• Good vision and depth perception, both near and far, with ability to distinguish basic shades and colors
• Hearing within normal range and at conversation level
• Ability to express or exchange ideas frequently and understand communication of others with or without adaptive devices
• Ability to perform simple repetitive tasks regularly and complex or varied tasks often
• Ability to make generalizations, evaluations, and decisions using independent judgment without immediate supervision
• Occasional work with hands in water and with or near chemicals
• Regular work with equipment with moveable parts
• Work environment is usually moderately quiet; occasional loud outbursts by residents may occur
• This position has a Personnel Exposure Risk Index rating of "High" for potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens
• Computer use up to 6-8 hours per day

Schedule

• Weekend position
• 8 hours per day, up to five days per week
• Additional hours may be requested based on staffing needs
