Registered Nurse (RN) - Surgical Unit - PRN

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) for its 42-bed Surgical Unit in Norfolk, Virginia. This position is PRN (as-needed) on the day shift. You will provide direct patient care to adults recovering from a variety of surgical procedures, including urology, general surgery, ENT, plastic surgery, gynecological surgery, surgical oncology, and trauma cases. The unit also includes 6 beds dedicated to epilepsy monitoring and serves as the Living Kidney Donor Transplant Unit. Patients typically stay 3-4 days and may have comorbidities such as renal disease, diabetes, COPD, and heart failure. This is a telemetry-monitored unit.

Responsibilities

• Perform nursing assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation using the nursing process
• Provide direct patient care to assigned patients in PODs (patient care areas)
• Monitor patients on telemetry
• Coordinate care with the interdisciplinary team
• Provide patient teaching and health promotion
• Maintain standards of professional nursing practice including ethics, communication, collaboration, and evidence-based practice

Required Qualifications

• Registered Nurse (RN) degree
• Active Virginia RN license
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 90 days of hire

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior RN experience
