Inova Loudoun Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) Sepsis Coordinator to lead sepsis identification, intervention, and quality improvement initiatives. This part-time position (24 hours per week) offers a flexible schedule and requires attendance at mandatory sepsis-related meetings. You will serve as a clinical expert and consultant, collaborating with physicians and interdisciplinary staff to improve sepsis outcomes and reduce mortality and length of stay.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with physicians and clinical staff to facilitate early identification and intervention for sepsis patients
- Assist clinicians with comprehensive assessments by interpreting clinical data to identify sepsis
- Improve outcomes related to sepsis management and address complex sepsis issues
- Act as a subject matter expert, teaching patients, families, and staff on sepsis-related techniques and care
- Plan, implement, and evaluate cost-effective sepsis continuing education programs for staff
- Track, support, and submit hospital sepsis data to the clinical team, quality department, and national benchmarking agencies
- Develop data-driven clinical quality improvement initiatives using Inova Health System's quality improvement methodology
- Ensure sepsis protocols and therapies become the standard of care within the facility
- Participate in rounds with physicians monitoring sepsis patients
- Conduct monthly sepsis program meetings to evaluate outcomes, develop policies and protocols, and review best practices
- Coordinate process improvement activities by assigning tasks to various departments and conducting follow-up to ensure successful outcomes
- Evaluate compliance with interdisciplinary sepsis documentation, sepsis bundle compliance, and physician utilization of sepsis orders
- Participate in a minimum of 80 hours of self-development activities annually, including at least 18 formal contact hours
- Maintain own continuing education record
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
- 16 hours of specialized sepsis education
- 2 years of acute care experience, including 1 year of quality performance improvement experience
- Active license as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association
Preferred Qualifications
- 5 or more years of clinical experience in emergency department, critical care, acute care, inpatient settings, or rapid response team
- Experience with EPIC and Excel reports
- CPR certification
- Knowledge of ACLS
- PALS certification
- Independent, self-motivated approach with strong communication and critical thinking skills
