Richland Hospital is seeking a full-time Registered Nurse for the Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR). This position provides direct nursing care in an acute inpatient perioperative setting, supporting complex on and off-pump cardiovascular surgical procedures. You will work as part of a surgical team, collaborating with surgeons and interdisciplinary staff to deliver evidence-based patient care and maintain the highest standards of safety and quality.
Clinical Setting
You will work in the Cardiovascular Operating Room at Richland Hospital, a 5 Medical Park Rd location in Richland. The role involves caring for patients undergoing intensive cardiovascular procedures in an acute inpatient setting. Weekend, holiday, and on-call work may be required.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures, protocols, and the South Carolina Nurse Practice Act
- Document surgical procedures, surgical counts, and patient preparation for complex on and off-pump cardiovascular procedures
- Interact with surgeons and team members to prepare for multifaceted procedures
- Operate and prepare complicated surgical equipment and devices
- Administer prescribed medications and treatments according to approved nursing protocol
- Assess patient needs and develop or revise individualized plans of care based on patient responses
- Evaluate patient progress toward expected clinical outcomes
- Communicate and collaborate with medical staff and the interdisciplinary team
- Document patient care in a knowledgeable, skillful, and consistent manner meeting all required and regulatory standards
- Prioritize patient care according to evidence-based practice standards
- Follow strict infection prevention precautions
- Initiate or assist with emergency response measures
- Assess and manage patients' pain using appropriate pain management techniques
- Establish relationships with patients and families, keeping them regularly informed and functioning as a patient and family advocate
- Participate in patient and family education related to illness and plan of care
- Assess and coordinate patient discharge planning needs with healthcare team members
- Delegate tasks and duties to healthcare team members according to patient needs and team member qualifications and scope of practice
- Demonstrate caring practices by providing a compassionate and therapeutic environment
- Assist the Surgical Technologist in a scrub role as needed
- Maintain inventory control of surgeon preferences and instrumentation needs
- Precept new staff to the OR and maintain continuing education credits
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN preferred)
- One year of experience as a registered nurse
- Current RN compact/multistate license recognized by the NCSBN Compact State or licensure to practice as an RN in South Carolina
- Compliance with all organizational policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements including licensure renewal, assigned training, employee health screenings, and infection control standards
Alternative Qualifications
In lieu of one year of registered nurse experience, the following are accepted:
- Successful completion of the Prisma Health Nurse Residency Program
- Successful completion of a comparable residency from another organization
- One year of licensed practical nurse (LPN) experience for internal candidates within the same service line
In lieu of an Associate Degree in Nursing, a nursing diploma with licensure to practice as a registered nurse is accepted.
Schedule
Full-time position with variable shifts. Weekend, holiday, and on-call work may be required.
