Registered Nurse (RN)- Pediatrics

This position offers the opportunity to deliver comprehensive nursing care to pediatric patients in a hospital setting. As a Registered Nurse in Pediatrics, you will assess and diagnose patient conditions, develop individualized plans of care, and evaluate patient responses to treatment. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams, participate in patient education and discharge planning, and guide designated care team members in achieving patient care goals.

Responsibilities

• Develop and evaluate plans of care by systematically assessing patients' physical, psychosocial, and spiritual health through interviews, physical examinations, and data collection
• Consult with multidisciplinary healthcare teams regarding nursing assessment findings
• Create written, individualized plans of care based on patient problem priorities, anticipated length of stay, and input from patients, families, and healthcare team members
• Communicate pertinent information and changes in patient status to appropriate care team members and healthcare providers
• Collaborate with team members to modify plans of care as necessary
• Provide and delegate patient care according to established protocols and plans of care
• Utilize clinical resources in implementing patient care and provide rationale for care decisions
• Conduct clinical rounds, provide emergency care, and administer medications
• Operate equipment required for patient care according to manufacturer recommendations
• Perform and assist with procedures and treatments including dressing changes, patient feeding, and pre- and post-operative care
• Practice and monitor infection control standards
• Promote and provide patient safety in accordance with state and federal guidelines
• Document patient care on all appropriate forms, including nursing admission assessments, progress notes, transfer assessments, and perioperative assessments
• Perform vital signs and pain assessments at least every four hours
• Complete intake and output records according to established protocols
• Initiate and complete healthcare referrals in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team
• Identify patients' learning needs upon admission and educate patients and families to enable participation in their care and decision-making
• Develop, implement, and document teaching plans of care and conduct patient teaching conferences
• Participate in quality improvement processes, including developing and implementing unit goals and objectives
• Attend in-service programs on new products and equipment
• Complete occurrence reports and unit-based audits as assigned
• Participate in identifying problems requiring investigation and in developing and implementing corrective action plans
• Participate in unit staff meetings and clinical conferences as scheduled
• Represent the clinical unit on committees as assigned
• Submit annual records of continuing education and self-assessments of clinical performance
• Perform charge nurse and preceptor responsibilities according to established protocols as assigned
• Perform related duties as required

Required Qualifications

• Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing
• Current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State
• BCLS, ACLS, or PALS certification

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
• 1-2 years of experience as a Registered Nurse in a Pediatric department
• Pediatric experience

Education Requirements

If hired after September 1, 2010, you must be enrolled in an accredited Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program within 24 months of employment and obtain your BSN degree within five years of your employment date.
