Registered Nurse (RN) - Orthopedic - Med Surg - Springfield Regional Medical Center

Mercy Health is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for the Medical/Surgical Unit at Springfield Regional Medical Center. This part-time position offers 24 scheduled weekly hours on the day shift (7:00 AM to 7:30 PM), with every third weekend required and one summer and one winter holiday off.

You will function as a care provider on a multidisciplinary team responsible for delivering patient care using the nursing process of assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. You will work with patients of diverse ages and cultural backgrounds, demonstrating strong time management and prioritization skills while contributing to quality nursing care through performance improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Establish goals and strategies in collaboration with interdisciplinary teams to meet patients' discharge or continuing care needs
• Perform and document complete patient assessments
• Initiate and maintain current nursing care plans for all assigned patients
• Identify patient learning needs and provide individualized, comprehensive teaching
• Administer medications safely and consistently with state practice standards and organizational policies
• Serve as a point of contact for patients' care coordination throughout hospital departments
• Act as a patient safety advocate by participating in ongoing quality improvement initiatives
• Serve as a patient advocate in collaboration with spiritual care, palliative care, and ethics services
• Assign patient care according to staff nursing skill, knowledge, and scope of practice
• Orient and facilitate learning experiences for nursing staff and others
• Perform comprehensive assessment of patients' clinical conditions and psychosocial needs
• Safely and efficiently develop, implement, and prioritize plans of care
• Assess patients' physical and emotional responses to treatment and revise care plans accordingly
• Assist patients and families in coping with illness
• Collaborate with others in delivering coordinated patient care
• Protect the safety and privacy of all persons
• Demonstrate understanding and utilization of office and clinical technologies

Required Qualifications

• Current RN license in the state where working or covered by compact
• One year of RN experience

Preferred Qualifications

• BLS Basic Life Support certification (must obtain from approved source prior to direct patient care; ACLS Advanced Cardiac Life Support acceptable in lieu of BLS)
• Six months of RN experience in an acute care hospital setting
• Medical-Surgical Nursing Certification (RN-BC)
• CCRN Critical Care Registered Nurse certification
• PCCN Progressive Care Certified Nurse certification
• CMSRN Certified Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse certification
• National Institute of Health (NIH) Stroke Certification
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing

Schedule

• Part-time, 24 scheduled weekly hours
• Day shift: 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM
• Every third weekend required
