Registered Nurse RN OR Operating Room

Banner Gateway Medical Center's Surgery department is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Operating Room. This position offers the opportunity to work across 13 operating rooms supporting a wide range of surgical specialties including oncologic, bariatric, robotic, general, urology, gynecology, orthopedics, and other specialties. You will serve a mostly adult patient population and provide surgical support to Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center.

Clinical Setting

Banner Gateway Medical Center is a 286-bed facility located in Gilbert, Arizona, near Phoenix. The hospital features state-of-the-art technology including comprehensive electronic medical records, physician order entry, digital radiography, and advanced patient monitoring systems. The facility has achieved Magnet recognition by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. The campus includes a 46-bed emergency department, obstetric and neonatal intensive care services supporting approximately 4,000 deliveries annually, and shares a campus with Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center, which provides world-class oncology care with specialized capabilities including stem cell transplant services and comprehensive head and neck cancer programs.

Responsibilities

• Assess patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge planning needs
• Review patient history and physical with patient and family, ensuring completion within appropriate timeframes
• Review available information from other healthcare team members and complete assessments and reassessments according to patient need
• Review diagnostic and laboratory data and report abnormal results to physicians and appropriate caregivers
• Formulate a plan of care including discharge planning using assessment data and input from patient, family, and health team
• Initiate care plans based on patient-specific needs, assessment data, and medical plans with realistic, measurable goals developed with patient and family
• Implement the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation, and supervision of healthcare team activities
• Provide care based on physician orders and nursing plan of care in compliance with policies, procedures, standards of care, and regulatory requirements
• Delegate appropriately and provide nursing supervision to licensed nurses and other personnel
• Promote continuity of care by accurately and completely communicating patient status to other caregivers
• Evaluate patient and family response to care and teaching, revising the plan of care as needed
• Evaluate patient progress toward goals and expected outcomes in collaboration with healthcare team members
• Document assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the patient record in a timely manner with legible, objective and subjective data
• Provide care based on best available evidence and may participate in research activities
• Participate in unit or facility shared leadership and education, role development, and orientation of facility personnel, patients, students, families, and visitors
• Promote and support growth of others through precepting and mentoring when appropriate
• Contribute to excellent patient outcomes through timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and safe care
• Actively participate in improvement of national nursing quality indicators and outcomes
• In some roles, supervise staff and workflow of the department
• Interact with all levels of staff in various departments, physicians, patients, families, and external contacts regarding patient healthcare
• Work with clergy to provide spiritual support
• Synthesize and prioritize data from multiple sources to support patient and family response to changes in health status

Schedule

• Employment Type: Full-time
• Hours per Week: Three 12-hour shifts
• Shift: Day shift, 6:30 AM to 7:00 PM
• Schedule: Monday through Friday, varied
• On-call duty required for nights, weekends, and holidays

Compensation and Incentives

• $10,000 incentive for experienced Operating Room nurses
• Flat rate of $5 per hour for on-call time
• $3 per hour weekend shift differential
• 18% night shift differential when applicable

Required Qualifications

• Current, valid RN license in state of practice, temporary/interim RN license in state of practice, or compact RN licensure for current state of practice
• BLS certification
• Experience in the clinical area for which applying is desired
• Must maintain clinical performance competencies appropriate to the area of work as demonstrated through annual validations
• Minimum of one year experience in an acute care hospital setting
• Experience must include working in an acute care setting within the past 12 months as a Registered Nurse in the specialty area
