The opportunity

Job Description

We are seeking a Registered Nurse to work in our Operating Room, providing specialized nursing care to patients undergoing surgery. In this fast-paced hospital setting, you will work before, during, and after surgical procedures, collaborating with surgeons and other healthcare professionals to ensure patient safety and comfort. You will assess, plan, educate, implement, and evaluate age-appropriate care using family-centered and cost-effective principles.

Schedule

  • Weekday schedule: 6:45 AM - 3:15 PM

Responsibilities

  • Perform and document comprehensive assessments of patients and families, including biophysical, psychosocial, developmental, cultural, spiritual, and environmental needs in an organized and systematic manner
  • Analyze situations, anticipate potential problems, and detect changes in patient status
  • Re-prioritize and update the plan of care based on new information and changes to the patient's condition; communicate this information to other healthcare team members and document in the medical record
  • Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and patient care conferences and document in the medical record
  • Assist patients and families in implementing their role in the plan of care as appropriate
  • Assess patient and family learning needs, capabilities, preferences, and readiness to learn prior to teaching
  • Demonstrate positive and effective interpersonal skills when dealing with patients, families, visitors, peers, and other healthcare team members
  • Administer and document medications and treatments in a timely manner
  • Demonstrate willingness and ability to acquire new knowledge and utilize new skills needed to improve individual, team, and organizational performance
  • Participate in unit performance improvement initiatives

Required Qualifications

  • One year of specific Operating Room experience
  • Minimum of 9 months nursing experience
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing, associate's degree, or technical diploma in nursing with acceptance or current enrollment in a BSN program and signed agreement; or an associate's degree in a related field accepted by the Texas Board of Nursing for obtaining and maintaining an RN license; or current enrollment in a nursing bridge program working toward an MSN with verified BSN-equivalency or signed agreement
  • Active RN license from the Texas Board of Nursing or Nurse License Compact
  • CPR - Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association
  • PALS certification
  • Positive and appropriate interpersonal skills, good time and resource management skills, flexibility, strong oral and written communication skills, knowledge of unit-specific equipment, knowledge of the nursing process, critical thinking skills, and ability for interdisciplinary collaboration

Additional Requirements

  • All successful candidates will be required to undergo respiratory fit testing in compliance with occupational health and safety standards.
