This is a contract position for a Registered Nurse in the Obstetrics Acute unit at a 156-bed community and regional teaching hospital in Delano, California. You will deliver coordinated nursing care for patients in a 9-bed obstetrics unit, supervise and direct nursing staff activities, and coordinate care with other disciplines using critical thinking and professional judgment.
Clinical Setting
The obstetrics unit is a 9-bed acute care setting within a full-service community hospital serving rural Central California. The facility has 24/7 CRNA coverage and no in-house OB hospitalist. There is no NICU on campus. The unit uses specialized equipment including Natus hearing screen machines, Neptune waste management systems in the OR, standing patient transfer devices, and FetaLink monitoring systems. Cesarean sections are performed on this unit.
Responsibilities
- Collect relevant data pertinent to patient health and clinical situations
- Analyze assessment data to determine diagnoses and care issues
- Develop and implement care plans that prescribe interventions to attain patient outcomes
- Coordinate care delivery and employ strategies to promote health and safe environments
- Evaluate progress toward attaining outcomes
- Collaborate with patients, families, and healthcare providers to provide safe, healing, humane, and caring care
- Provide learning opportunities for patients, families, and team members
- Directly provide health information to patients, families, and treatment teams
- Participate in discharge planning to provide continuity of care
- Delegate appropriately and coordinate duties of healthcare team members
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned
Schedule
This is an epic backfill position on day shift, 36 or 48 hours per week. Floating to Bakersfield as needed is required. Weekend coverage is required at 6 weekend shifts every 6 weeks. Call is not required, but willingness to be on call is appreciated. On-call duties are not mandatory.
Required Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of practice
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification or Basic Life Support (BLS, HS-BLS, or RQIBLS) certification from an approved vendor per facility policy
- AHA-BLS or ARC-BLS certification
- AHA-NRP or ARC-NALS certification
- S.T.A.B.L.E. (Stabilization and Transportation of Babies with Life-Threatening Emergencies) certification
- AHA-ACLS or ARC-ALS certification
- Fetal Heart Monitoring (FHM) certification
