Job Description

Banner Health is seeking Registered Nurses for the New Graduate RN Residency Program, a full-time position in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) at Banner Health in Gilbert, Arizona. This is an accredited practice transition program designed to support new graduates in transitioning from graduation to fully competent professional nurses. You will work in a busy, fast-paced PCU unit with 84 beds providing care to diverse patients with higher acuity needs in a three-unit cardiac monitored setting.

This New Nurse Experience (NNE) program provides a collaborative learning environment where you will refine nursing skills, enhance knowledge, and develop professional relationships while receiving clinical mentorship from unit staff and educators.

Clinical Setting

The Progressive Care Unit is a cardiac monitored inpatient setting with 84 beds across three units. You will work with a multidisciplinary team providing care to higher acuity patients with diverse demographics.

Program Structure

The program is designed for new graduates to complete at least 12 months on their assigned unit to receive comprehensive training. Program activities include:

  • Clinical experiences with a preceptor
  • Training in Banner's state-of-the-art Simulation Center
  • Competency and skills assessment and verification
  • Orientation to the Cerner electronic medical health record system
  • Patient care skills lab with hands-on equipment experience
  • e-Learning modules
  • Resources for professional and personal development

Responsibilities

  • Assess patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge planning needs
  • Review patient history and physical with patient and family; ensure completion within appropriate timeframe
  • Review diagnostics and laboratory data and report abnormal results to physicians and appropriate caregivers
  • Formulate a plan of care including discharge planning using assessment data and input from patient, family, and health team
  • Implement the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation, and supervision of healthcare team activities
  • Provide care based on physician orders and nursing plan of care in compliance with policies, procedures, standards of care, and regulatory requirements
  • Evaluate patient and family response to care and teaching; revise plan of care as needed
  • Document assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the patient record in a timely and accurate manner
  • Provide care based on best evidence available and may participate in research activities
  • Participate in unit or facility shared leadership and education of facility personnel, patients, students, families, and visitors
  • Interact with all levels of staff, physicians, patients, families, and external contacts regarding patient healthcare

Schedule

This is a full-time position working night shift from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM. Most new nurses work three 12-hour shifts per week, including weekend and holiday rotations.

Required Qualifications

  • Recent or upcoming graduation from an accredited nursing program
  • Current BLS card through American Heart Association, Red Cross, or ASHI, or ability to obtain certification before start date
  • No more than 12 months of RN experience
  • Current, valid RN license in state of practice, temporary/interim RN license in state of practice, or compact RN licensure for current state of practice

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active RN license
  • Previous clinical healthcare experience
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN); Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) accepted at select locations
  • Professional certification

Additional Requirements

  • New graduates must live within a reasonable commute distance of the facility they are hired into
  • Expectation to remain on assigned NNE unit for at least 12 months

Compensation and Benefits

This is a full-time, benefitted, and paid position. Compensation includes:

  • Flat rate $3/hour weekend shift differential
  • 18% night shift differential when applicable
  • Total Rewards Compensation Package including health, dental, and vision insurance (if desired)
  • PTO and sick time accrual
  • 401(k) matching
  • Benefits begin the first of the month following start date
