Registered Nurse RN New Graduate PCU

Banner Health is seeking Registered Nurses for the New Graduate RN Residency Program, a full-time position designed to transition new graduates into fully competent, professional nurses. This is an ANCC-accredited Practice Transition Accreditation Program (PTAP) that provides comprehensive clinical training and mentorship.

You will be placed on a specific unit at a Banner Health facility to receive clinical mentorship from unit staff and educators. The program offers a collaborative learning environment where you will refine nursing skills, enhance knowledge, and develop professional relationships while working toward long-term career goals in specialty units, leadership, non-bedside nursing, or other nursing sectors.

Clinical Setting

This position is located in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU-4D) in Phoenix, Arizona. The PCU is a newly constructed unit that serves patients with medically complex needs, including ICU downgrades, PCU patients, and occasional medical-surgical patients. The unit has received an organizational award for stellar patient experience and features pleasing aesthetics with functional design.

Responsibilities

• Assess patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge planning needs
• Review patient history and physical with patient and family; ensure completion within appropriate timeframe
• Review diagnostics and laboratory data; report abnormal results to physicians and appropriate caregivers
• Complete assessments and reassessments according to patient need and policy
• Formulate a plan of care including discharge planning using assessment data and input from patient, family, and health team
• Initiate care plans based on patient-specific needs, assessment data, and medical plan of care
• Develop realistic, measurable goals in conjunction with patient and family
• Plan care in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team
• Review and revise the plan of care to reflect changing patient needs
• Implement the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation, and supervision
• Provide care based on physician orders and nursing plan of care in compliance with policies, procedures, standards of care, and regulatory requirements
• Delegate appropriately and provide nursing supervision to other licensed nurses and personnel
• Promote continuity of care through accurate and complete communication of patient status to other caregivers
• Evaluate patient and family response to care and teaching; revise plan of care as needed
• Evaluate patient progress toward goals and expected outcomes in collaboration with health care team members
• Evaluate effectiveness of patient teaching
• Document assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the patient record in a timely manner
• Provide care based on best evidence available and may participate in research activities
• Participate in unit or facility shared leadership
• Interact and participate in education, role development, and orientation of facility personnel, patients, students, families, and visitors
• Promote and support growth of others through precepting and mentoring when appropriate
• Contribute to excellent patient outcomes through timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and safe care
• Actively participate in improvement of national nursing quality indicators and outcomes
• Interact with all levels of staff, physicians, patients, families, and external contacts regarding patient health care
• Work with clergy to provide spiritual support
• Synthesize and prioritize data from multiple sources to support patient and family response to health status changes

Schedule

This is a full-time position working night shift. Most new nurses work three 12-hour shifts, which include weekend and holiday rotations with other staff members. You must be willing to live within a reasonable commute distance of the facility.

Required Qualifications

• Recent or upcoming graduation from an accredited nursing program
• Current, valid RN license in state of practice, temporary/interim RN license in state of practice, or compact RN licensure for current state of practice
• Current BLS certification through American Heart Association, Red Cross, or ASHI, or ability to obtain certification before start date
• No more than 12 months of RN experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN); Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) accepted at select locations
• Previous healthcare experience
• Professional certification
• Additional related education and/or experience

Program Expectations

You are expected to remain on your assigned NNE unit for at least 12 months to receive a full and comprehensive training experience. New graduates must live within a reasonable commute distance of the facility they are hired into.

Compensation and Benefits

This is a full-time, benefitted, and paid position. Compensation includes a flat rate $3/hour weekend shift differential and an 18% night shift differential when applicable. All New Grad RN positions are eligible for Banner Health's Total Rewards Compensation Package, which includes health, dental, and vision insurance (if desired), PTO and sick time accrual, 401(k), and additional benefits. Benefits begin the first of the month following your start date.
