Inova is seeking new Registered Nurses graduating between October 2026 and January 2027 for its RN New Graduate Residency program. This one-year residency is designed to prepare you for your nursing career in the acute care setting. As a resident, you will expand your clinical reasoning, communication, and leadership skills while working on inpatient units across multiple Inova facilities in Northern Virginia.

Clinical Setting

Positions are available across inpatient units at five Inova facilities: Alexandria Hospital, Fairfax Medical Campus, Fair Oaks Hospital, Loudoun Hospital, and Mount Vernon Hospital. You may work day shift, mid-shift, or night shift depending on facility and unit needs.

Responsibilities

  • Make clinical decisions based on experience, patient population data, and clinical intuition; promote clinical decision-making development in team members
  • Provide validation of clinical decisions for other team members and seek validation from others for complex patients or unfamiliar situations
  • Support and empower patients and families as they progress through the healthcare continuum from health promotion to end-of-life decisions
  • Counsel patients and families and act as a resource to resolve issues; advocate for patients' rights from the patient and family perspective
  • Assess patients' learning needs and measure outcomes of patient education
  • Anticipate ethical, spiritual, and cultural needs while intervening to maximize patient outcomes
  • Coordinate healthcare and alternate services for patient and family transition planning
  • Integrate knowledge, skills, and experiences to meet the needs of patients and families throughout the continuum of care
  • Interpret trends in patient populations to achieve best practice
  • Collaborate in the development and implementation of educational plans for identified needs
  • Review self-development plan and professional goals; seek new knowledge toward progression of professional goals
  • Obtain a minimum of six formal contact hours demonstrating self-development
  • Maintain your Team Member Continuing Education Record

Required Qualifications

  • Less than one year of experience as a Registered Nurse
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), Master of Science Degree in Nursing (MSN), or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • If you hold an ADN, you must enroll in an accredited BSN program within 2 years of your start date and complete the BSN within 5 years of your start date
  • Current Virginia RN license or privilege to practice in Virginia under the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification from the American Heart Association required upon start
