Registered Nurse RN New Graduate Neuro Trauma PCU

Join Banner Health's New Nurse Experience (NNE), an ANCC-accredited residency program designed to transition new graduate registered nurses into fully competent, professional nurses. This full-time position is located in the PCU Neuro Trauma unit at Banner University Medical Center Phoenix, a 48-bed neuroscience unit with 8 epilepsy monitoring beds.

The Neuroscience Service Line offers state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment modalities including laser thermal ablation of tumors, awake craniotomies, surgery for brainstem lesions, and endoscopic microsurgery. As Arizona's first comprehensive stroke center, the unit takes a multidisciplinary team approach that involves nurses in collaborative patient care planning.

Program Overview

The New Nurse Experience provides a collaborative learning environment where you will refine nursing skills, enhance knowledge, and develop professional relationships. You will be clinically mentored by unit staff and educators while receiving comprehensive training over a minimum 12-month commitment on your assigned unit. Responsibilities

• Assess patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge planning needs
• Review patient history and physical with patient and family; ensure completion within appropriate timeframe
• Review diagnostics and laboratory data; report abnormal results to physicians and appropriate caregivers
• Formulate a plan of care including discharge planning using assessment data and input from patient, family, and health team
• Initiate care plans based on patient-specific needs, assessment data, and medical plan of care with realistic, measurable goals
• Implement the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation, and supervision of healthcare team activities
• Provide care based on physician orders and nursing plan of care in compliance with policies, procedures, standards of care, and regulatory requirements
• Evaluate patient and family response to care and teaching; revise plan of care as needed
• Document assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the patient record in a timely, legible manner in accordance with policy
• Provide care based on best available evidence and may participate in research activities
• Participate in unit or facility shared leadership
• Interact and participate in education, role development, and orientation of facility personnel, patients, students, families, and visitors
• Promote and support growth of others through precepting and mentoring when appropriate
• Contribute to excellent patient outcomes through timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and safe care
• Actively participate in improvement of national nursing quality indicators and outcomes
• Interact with all levels of staff, physicians, patients, families, and external contacts regarding patient healthcare
• Synthesize and prioritize data from multiple sources to support patient and family responses to health status changes

Schedule

• Night shift
• Three 12-hour shifts per week
• Weekend and holiday rotations with other staff members
• You must live within a reasonable commute distance of the facility

Required Qualifications

• Recent or upcoming graduation from an accredited nursing program
• Current, valid RN license in state of practice, temporary/interim RN license, or compact RN licensure for current state of practice
• Current BLS certification through American Heart Association, Red Cross, or ASHI, or ability to obtain certification before start date
• No more than 12 months of RN experience
• Previous healthcare experience is preferred

Education

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred
• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) is accepted at select locations

Compensation and Benefits

This is a full-time, benefitted, paid position.

• Flat rate $3/hour weekend shift differential
• 18% night shift differential when applicable
