The opportunity

Job Description

Banner Health is hiring Registered Nurses for the New Graduate RN Residency Program, a full-time position on the Medical/Surgical-Pulmonary unit (M/S-8CD Pulmonary-Hosp) in Phoenix, Arizona. This is an accredited practice transition program designed to support new graduates in transitioning from graduation to fully competent professional nurses. You will care for a variety of patients including those with asthma, COPD, cystic fibrosis, and general medical and surgical conditions on a pulmonary-focused unit.

The New Nurse Experience (NNE) program has received the highest accreditation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) as a Practice Transition Accreditation Program (PTAP). You will work in a collaborative learning environment with clinical mentorship from unit staff and educators, refining your nursing skills and enhancing your knowledge while developing professional relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Assess patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge planning needs
  • Review patient history and physical with patient and family; ensure completion within appropriate timeframe
  • Review diagnostics and laboratory data and report abnormal results to physicians and appropriate caregivers
  • Formulate a plan of care including discharge planning using assessment data and input from patient, family, and health team
  • Implement the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation, and supervision of healthcare team activities
  • Provide care based on physician orders and nursing plan of care in compliance with policies, procedures, standards of care, and regulatory requirements
  • Evaluate patient and family response to care and teaching; revise plan of care as needed
  • Document assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the patient record in a timely and accurate manner
  • Provide care based on best evidence available and may participate in research activities
  • Participate in unit or facility shared leadership and education of facility personnel, patients, students, families, and visitors
  • Interact with all levels of staff, physicians, patients, families, and external healthcare contacts

Schedule

Night shift: 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM. Most new nurses work three 12-hour shifts per week, including weekend and holiday rotations with other staff members. You must live within a reasonable commute distance of the facility.

Required Qualifications

  • Recent or upcoming graduation from an accredited nursing program
  • Current BLS card (through American Heart Association, Red Cross, or ASHI) or ability to obtain certification before start date
  • No more than 12 months of RN experience
  • Current, valid RN license in state of practice, temporary/interim RN license in state of practice, or compact RN licensure for current state of practice

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN); Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) accepted at select locations
  • Previous healthcare experience
  • Professional certification
  • Additional related education and/or experience

Program Expectations

You are expected to remain on your NNE unit for at least 12 months to receive a full and comprehensive training experience. New graduates will be placed in specific units at Banner Health facilities to be clinically mentored. Compensation and Benefits

This is a full-time, benefitted, and paid position. Compensation includes a flat rate $3/hour weekend shift differential and an 18% night shift differential when applicable. All New Grad RN positions are eligible for Banner Health's Total Rewards Compensation Package, which includes health, dental, and vision insurance (if desired), PTO/sick time accrual, 401(k), and additional benefits. Benefits begin the first of the month following your start date.
