The opportunity

Job Description

Banner Health is hiring Registered Nurses for the New Graduate RN Residency Program, a full-time, paid position designed to transition new graduates into fully competent professional nurses. This ANCC-accredited program places you on a medical-surgical unit where you will care for post-surgical and medical patients with multiple comorbidities, including those requiring behavioral health support.

You will work on one of two units: 4 South, a 40-bed unit with a mix of new graduate and experienced RNs that promotes positive work culture and work-life balance, or 5 South West, a brand new 17-bed progressive care unit where you'll have the opportunity to help build and grow a unit from the ground up.

Program Overview

The New Nurse Experience (NNE) provides a collaborative learning environment where you will refine your nursing skills, enhance your knowledge, and develop professional relationships. The expectation is that you will remain on your assigned unit for at least 12 months to receive comprehensive training. You must live within a reasonable commute distance of your assigned facility.

  • Orientation to the Cerner electronic medical health record system
  • Patient care skills lab with hands-on equipment experience

Responsibilities

  • Assess patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge planning needs
  • Review patient history and physical with patient and family; ensure completion within appropriate timeframe
  • Review diagnostics and laboratory data; report abnormal results to physicians and appropriate caregivers
  • Formulate and implement individualized plans of care in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team
  • Provide direct patient care based on physician orders and nursing plans in compliance with policies, procedures, and standards of care
  • Delegate appropriately and provide nursing supervision to other licensed nurses and healthcare personnel
  • Evaluate patient and family response to care and teaching; revise the plan of care as needed
  • Document assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the patient record in a timely and accurate manner
  • Participate in unit or facility shared leadership and quality improvement activities
  • Mentor and precept other staff and students when appropriate
  • Interact with all levels of staff, physicians, patients, families, and external healthcare contacts

Required Qualifications

  • Recent or upcoming graduation from an accredited nursing program
  • Current BLS certification (American Heart Association, Red Cross, or ASHI) or ability to obtain before start date
  • No more than 12 months of RN experience
  • Current, valid RN license in state of practice, temporary/interim RN license, or compact RN licensure

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN); Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) accepted at select locations
  • Previous healthcare experience
  • Professional certification
  • Additional related education and/or experience

Schedule and Shift

  • Full-time position
  • Varied shifts
  • Weekend shift differential: flat rate $3/hour

Compensation and Benefits

This is a full-time, benefitted, and paid position. All New Grad RN positions are eligible for Banner Health's Total Rewards Compensation Package, which includes:

Employees working in Banner Behavioral Health clinical settings that serve children must possess an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain it for the duration of employment. An Arizona Criminal History Affidavit must be signed upon hire.
