Banner Health is seeking Registered Nurses for the New Graduate RN Residency Program, a full-time position designed to transition new graduates into fully competent, professional nurses. This ANCC-accredited program provides comprehensive clinical training, mentorship, and professional development in a collaborative learning environment.
Clinical Setting
You will be placed on the Cardiac Medical Progressive Care Unit, a 48-bed specialized unit providing care for patients with cardiac diagnoses including angina, sub-acute MI, and heart failure. The unit offers diagnostic tests and interventional treatments such as cardiac catheterizations, angioplasty, stent placement, ultrafiltration, permanent pacemakers, and internal cardiac defibrillators (ICD). The unit maintains typical patient ratios of 1:4 and features a dedicated Heart Failure Team working collaboratively with nursing staff.
Program Overview
The New Nurse Experience (NNE) is a structured residency program that includes:
- Clinical experiences with a preceptor
- Training in Banner's state-of-the-art Simulation Center
- Competency and skills assessment and verification
- Orientation to the Cerner electronic medical health record system
- Patient care skills lab with hands-on equipment experience
- e-Learning modules
- Resources for professional and personal development
You will work with a clinical mentor and unit educators to refine nursing skills, enhance knowledge, and develop professional relationships. The program offers multiple career pathways and development opportunities, whether you are interested in specialty units, leadership roles, non-bedside nursing, or other nursing sectors. You are expected to remain on your assigned NNE unit for at least 12 months to gain a full and comprehensive training experience.
Responsibilities
- Assess patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge planning needs
- Review patient history and physical with patient and family; ensure completion within appropriate timeframe
- Review diagnostics and laboratory data and report abnormal results to physicians and appropriate caregivers
- Formulate a plan of care including discharge planning, utilizing assessment data and input from patient, family, and health team
- Initiate care plans based on patient-specific needs and medical plan of care with realistic, measurable goals
- Implement the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation, and supervision of healthcare team activities
- Provide care based on physician orders and nursing plan of care in compliance with policies, procedures, standards of care, and regulatory requirements
- Evaluate patient and family response to care and teaching; revise plan of care as needed
- Document assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the patient record in a timely, legible, and policy-compliant manner
- Provide care based on best available evidence and may participate in research activities
- Participate in unit or facility shared leadership and education of facility personnel, patients, students, families, and visitors
- Promote and support growth of others through precepting and mentoring when appropriate
- Interact with all levels of staff, physicians, patients, families, and external healthcare contacts
Schedule
- Day shift position
- Most new nurses work three 12-hour shifts per week
- Weekend and holiday rotations required
- You must live within a reasonable commute distance of the facility where you are hired
Required Qualifications
- Recent or upcoming graduation from an accredited nursing program
- Current, valid RN license in state of practice, temporary/interim RN license, or compact RN licensure for current state of practice
- Current BLS certification (through American Heart Association, Red Cross, or ASHI) or ability to obtain certification before start date
- No more than 12 months of RN experience
Education
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) accepted at select locations
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- Professional certification
- Previous acute care experience as a CNA or Patient Care Assistant
- Previous healthcare experience
- Additional related education and/or experience
Compensation and Benefits
This is a full-time, benefitted, and paid position.
- Flat rate $3/hour weekend shift differential
- 18% night shift differential when applicable
