Registered Nurse RN New Graduate General PCU

Join Banner Health's New Graduate RN Residency Program, an ANCC-accredited Practice Transition Accreditation Program (PTAP), as a Registered Nurse on the General PCU at Banner Thunderbird Medical Center in Glendale, Arizona. This full-time position provides comprehensive training and mentorship to transition you from a new graduate to a fully competent professional nurse.

You will care for a diverse patient population on a 30-bed general Medical PCU floor, including patients with vascular, cardio-thoracic surgical, heart failure, neurological, and respiratory conditions. Patients are admitted from the ICU, transferred from other floors due to acuity changes, or admitted from the Emergency Department. This role requires self-driven nurses who can respond quickly to changes in patient condition, think critically, communicate effectively, work collaboratively, and implement evidence-based practice.

Clinical Setting

Banner Thunderbird Medical Center is a Level 1 Trauma Center serving the Northwest Valley for over 25 years. The facility includes a heart and vascular center, state-of-the-art surgical suites, and a new Emergency Department. The General PCU supports learning at all levels and provides exposure to multisystem complex patients.

Responsibilities

• Assess patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge planning needs
• Review patient history, physical examination, and available information from other healthcare team members
• Review diagnostic and laboratory data and report abnormal results to physicians and appropriate caregivers
• Formulate a plan of care including discharge planning using assessment data and input from patient, family, and health team
• Implement the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation, and supervision of healthcare team activities
• Provide care based on physician orders and nursing plan of care in compliance with policies, procedures, standards of care, and regulatory requirements
• Evaluate patient and family response to care and teaching, revising the plan as needed
• Document assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the patient record accurately and timely
• Provide care based on best available evidence and participate in research activities within clinical practice
• Participate in unit or facility shared leadership and support growth of others through precepting and mentoring
• Interact with all levels of staff, physicians, patients, families, and external healthcare contacts

Schedule

Most new nurses work three 12-hour shifts per week, including weekend and holiday rotations with other staff members. Day and night shifts are available. You must be willing to live within a reasonable commute distance of Banner Thunderbird Medical Center. The expectation is that you will remain on your NNE unit for at least 12 months to receive a full and comprehensive training experience.

Required Qualifications

• Recent or upcoming graduation from an accredited nursing program
• Current, valid Arizona RN license, temporary/interim RN license, or compact RN licensure
• Current BLS certification through American Heart Association, Red Cross, or ASHI, or ability to obtain certification before start date
• No more than 12 months of RN experience
• Previous healthcare experience is preferred

Education

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred
• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) is accepted at select locations

Compensation and Benefits

This is a full-time, benefitted, and paid position. Compensation includes:

• Flat rate $3/hour weekend shift differential
• 18% night shift differential when applicable
