Job Description

Banner Health is hiring Registered Nurses for the New Graduate RN Residency Program in the Emergency Department at Banner Boswell Medical Center in Sun City, Arizona. This is a full-time, night shift position (6pm-6:30am) designed to transition new graduates into fully competent, professional nurses through structured clinical mentorship and comprehensive training.

The Emergency Department is a 56-bed Level 4 Trauma Center that treats over 48,000 patients annually, including adults and pediatric patients. The ED maintains NIHSS Stroke Gold Elite Plus, Chest Pain, and Pediatric Preparedness accreditations and provides state-of-the-art stroke, cardiac, and pediatric care through a multidisciplinary team.

Program Overview

The New Nurse Experience (NNE) Program has received the highest accreditation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) as a Practice Transition Accreditation Program (PTAP). This full-time residency provides a collaborative learning environment where you will refine nursing skills, enhance knowledge, and develop professional relationships while transitioning to independent practice.

You will be clinically mentored by unit staff and educators and will have access to multiple career pathways and development opportunities. The program is designed to support long-term career goals, whether in specialty units, leadership roles, non-bedside nursing, or other nursing sectors.

Responsibilities

  • Assess patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge planning needs
  • Review patient history and physical with patient and family; ensure completion within appropriate timeframe
  • Review diagnostics and laboratory data and report abnormal results to physicians and appropriate caregivers
  • Formulate a plan of care including discharge planning using assessment data and input from patient, family, and health team
  • Implement the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation, and supervision of healthcare team activities
  • Provide care based on physician orders and nursing plan of care in compliance with policies, procedures, standards of care, and regulatory requirements
  • Evaluate patient and family response to care and teaching; revise plan of care as needed
  • Document assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the patient record in a timely and accurate manner
  • Provide care based on best evidence available and may participate in research activities
  • Participate in unit or facility shared leadership and education of facility personnel, patients, students, families, and visitors
  • Interact with all levels of staff, physicians, patients, families, and external healthcare contacts

Required Qualifications

  • Recent or upcoming graduation from an accredited nursing program
  • Current or temporary/interim RN license in Arizona, or compact RN licensure for Arizona
  • Current BLS certification (American Heart Association, Red Cross, or ASHI) or ability to obtain before start date
  • No more than 12 months of RN experience

Schedule and Commitment

This is a full-time position working three 12-hour night shifts per week, including weekend and holiday rotations. You are expected to remain on your assigned NNE unit for at least 12 months to receive a full and comprehensive training experience. You must live within a reasonable commute distance of Banner Boswell Medical Center.

Compensation and Benefits

This is a full-time, benefitted, and paid position. Compensation includes:

  • Flat rate $3/hour weekend shift differential
  • 18% night shift differential when applicable
  • Total Rewards Compensation Package including health, dental, and vision insurance (if desired)
  • PTO and sick time accrual
  • 401(k) matching
  • Benefits begin the first of the month following your start date
