Job Description

Join Banner Health's New Nurse Experience (NNE) Program, an ANCC-accredited residency designed to transition new graduate RNs into fully competent professional nurses. You will be placed on the Cardiovascular Progressive Care Unit (CVPCU), a 23-bed inpatient cardiac monitored unit that cares for surgical cardiac, thoracic, and vascular patients, along with some medical cardiology cases. This full-time position offers comprehensive clinical mentoring, skills development, and structured support as you build your nursing career.

Clinical Setting

The CVPCU is a specialty cardiac unit with a strong team culture focused on clinical expertise, patient-centered care, and mentoring. The unit's Shared Leadership Council actively works to enhance quality outcomes and foster a healthy work environment.

Program Overview

The New Nurse Experience Program provides a collaborative learning environment where you will refine nursing skills, enhance knowledge, and develop professional relationships. You will work with a clinical preceptor, participate in training at Banner's state-of-the-art Simulation Center, complete competency and skills assessments, receive orientation to the Cerner electronic medical record system, and engage in patient care skills labs and e-learning modules. The program includes resources for professional and personal development.

Expectation of Commitment

You are expected to remain on your NNE unit for at least 12 months to receive a full and comprehensive training experience. You must live within a reasonable commute distance of the facility where you are hired.

Responsibilities

  • Assess patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge planning needs
  • Review patient history and physical with patient and family; ensure completion within appropriate timeframe
  • Review diagnostics and laboratory data; report abnormal results to physicians and appropriate caregivers
  • Complete assessments and reassessments according to patient need and policy
  • Formulate a plan of care including discharge planning, utilizing assessment data and input from patient, family, and health team
  • Initiate care plans based on patient-specific needs, assessment data, and medical plan of care
  • Develop realistic, measurable goals in conjunction with patient and family
  • Consider physical, cultural, psychosocial, spiritual, age-specific, and educational needs in care planning
  • Implement the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation, and supervision
  • Provide care based on physician orders and nursing plan of care in compliance with policies, procedures, standards of care, and regulatory requirements
  • Delegate appropriately and provide nursing supervision to other licensed nurses and personnel
  • Promote continuity of care through accurate and complete communication of patient status to other caregivers
  • Evaluate patient and family response to care and teaching; revise plan of care as needed
  • Evaluate patient progress toward goals and expected outcomes in collaboration with health care team members
  • Evaluate effectiveness of patient teaching
  • Document assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in patient record in a timely, legible, and policy-compliant manner
  • Provide care based on best available evidence and may participate in research activities
  • Participate in unit or facility shared leadership
  • Interact and participate in education, role development, and orientation of facility personnel, patients, students, families, and visitors
  • Promote and support growth of others through precepting and mentoring when appropriate
  • Contribute to excellent patient outcomes through timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and safe care
  • Actively participate in improvement of national nursing quality indicators and outcomes
  • Interact with all levels of staff, physicians, patients, families, and external contacts regarding patient health care
  • Work with clergy to provide spiritual support
  • Synthesize and prioritize data from multiple sources to support patient and family response to health status changes

Schedule

Most new nurses work three 12-hour shifts per week, including weekend and holiday rotations. This position is a night shift role, 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM.

Required Qualifications

  • Recent or upcoming graduation from an accredited nursing program
  • Current BLS card (through American Heart Association, Red Cross, or ASHI) or ability to obtain certification before start date
  • No more than 12 months of RN experience
  • Current, valid RN license in state of practice, temporary/interim RN license in state of practice, or compact RN licensure for current state of practice

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active RN license
  • Previous clinical healthcare experience
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN); open to Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) at select locations
  • Professional certification
  • Additional related education and/or experience

Compensation and Benefits

This is a full-time, benefitted, and paid position. Compensation includes a flat rate of $3/hour weekend shift differential and an 18% night shift differential when applicable. All new graduate RN positions are eligible for Banner Health's Total Rewards Compensation Package, which includes health, dental, and vision insurance (if employee desires), PTO and sick time accrual, 401(k) matching, and additional benefits. Benefits begin the first of the month following your start date.
