Join the Critical Care Unit at Lexington Medical Center as a Registered Nurse, providing comprehensive patient care in a 16-bed intensive and intermediate care setting. This position is designed for new graduate nurses entering critical care practice.
Clinical Setting
The Critical Care Unit is a 16-bed department equipped with advanced monitoring capabilities including heart rhythm and hemodynamic pressure monitoring. The unit is staffed with a dedicated charge nurse who carries no patient assignment, supporting the clinical team. You will care for patients requiring ventilator support, noninvasive ventilation with BiPAP or CPAP, and heated high-flow oxygen delivery.
Patient Population
You will work with patients experiencing a wide range of critical conditions, including sepsis, shock, respiratory failure, diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), hyperglycemic hyperosmolar state (HHS), electrolyte abnormalities, COPD, congestive heart failure, pulmonary edema, cardiac dysrhythmias, stroke, post-surgical unstable patients, hypertensive emergencies, overdose, and alcohol withdrawal.
Responsibilities
- Provide and coordinate comprehensive patient care through the nursing process
- Deliver safe, therapeutic care in accordance with established standards, policies, and procedures
- Apply evidence-based practice and clinical decision-making in patient care
- Titrate intravenous medication drips to ordered parameters
- Follow established protocols and order sets
- Communicate effectively with patients and the interdisciplinary team
- Advocate for patient needs and create a safe patient environment
Schedule
- Full-time position, 36 hours per week
- Three 12-hour shifts weekly
- 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM (night shift)
- Every other weekend rotation
Required Qualifications
- Completion of an accredited or approved nursing program
- Active Registered Nurse license issued by the state of North Carolina
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Less than one year of RN experience (new graduate position)
Compensation and Benefits
- Pay range: $38.20 to $57.30 per hour
- Base compensation determined by qualifications, skills, relevant experience, and training
