Lexington Medical Center is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for its 16-bed Critical Care Unit, which provides both Intensive and Intermediate Care. This is an excellent opportunity for new graduates to launch their nursing career in a supportive critical care environment.
Clinical Setting
The Critical Care Unit is equipped with advanced monitoring capabilities for heart rhythms and hemodynamic pressures. The unit manages patients on ventilators, noninvasive ventilation (BiPAP or CPAP), and heated high-flow oxygen delivery systems. A dedicated charge nurse supports the unit without a patient assignment, allowing for mentorship and guidance.
Patient Population
You will care for patients with complex acute and critical conditions, including sepsis, shock, respiratory failure, diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), hyperglycemic hyperosmolar state (HHS), electrolyte abnormalities, COPD, congestive heart failure (CHF), pulmonary edema, cardiac dysrhythmias, stroke, post-surgical unstable patients, hypertensive emergencies, overdose, and alcohol withdrawal.
Responsibilities
- Provide and coordinate comprehensive patient care using the nursing process
- Deliver safe, therapeutic care in accordance with established standards, policies, and procedures
- Apply evidence-based practice and clinical decision-making in patient care
- Titrate intravenous medication drips to ordered parameters
- Follow established protocols and order sets
- Communicate effectively with the interdisciplinary team
- Contribute to creating a safe patient environment and positive patient experience
Required Qualifications
- Completion of an accredited or approved nursing program
- Active Registered Nurse license issued by the state of North Carolina
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Less than 1 year of RN experience (new graduate position)
