Registered Nurse RN New Graduate Banner Health Nurse Externs & Transition to Practice Students

Banner Health is hiring Registered Nurses for the New Nurse Experience (NNE), an ANCC-accredited residency program designed to transition new graduates into fully competent, professional nurses. This is a full-time, paid position with benefits.

Position Overview

You will be placed in a specific unit at a Banner Health facility where you will work under the clinical mentorship of unit staff and educators. The program provides a collaborative learning environment to refine your nursing skills, enhance your knowledge, and develop professional relationships while transitioning from new graduate to competent professional nurse. Unit preferences will be considered as Banner Health works to match your desired service line with business needs.

Schedule and Shifts

Day and night positions are available. Most new nurses work three 12-hour shifts per week, including weekend and holiday rotations with other staff members.

Program Activities

• Clinical experiences with a preceptor
• Training in Banner's state-of-the-art Simulation Center
• Competency and skills assessment and verification
• Orientation to the Cerner electronic medical health record system
• Patient care skills lab with hands-on equipment experience

Responsibilities

• Assess patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge planning needs
• Review patient history and physical with patient and family; ensure completion within appropriate timeframe
• Review diagnostics and laboratory data; report abnormal results to physicians and appropriate caregivers
• Formulate a plan of care including discharge planning using assessment data and input from patient, family, and health team
• Initiate care plans based on patient-specific needs and medical plan; develop realistic, measurable goals in collaboration with patient and family
• Implement the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation, and supervision of health care team activities
• Provide care based on physician orders and nursing plan in compliance with policies, procedures, standards of care, and regulatory requirements
• Evaluate patient and family response to care and teaching; revise plan as needed
• Document assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the patient record in a timely, legible manner in accordance with policy
• Provide care based on best available evidence and may participate in research activities
• Participate in unit or facility shared leadership
• Interact with and participate in education, role development, and orientation of facility personnel, patients, students, families, and visitors
• Support growth of others through precepting and mentoring when appropriate
• Contribute to excellent patient outcomes through timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and safe care
• Actively participate in improvement of national nursing quality indicators and outcomes
• Interact with all levels of staff, physicians, patients, families, and external contacts regarding patient health care
• Work with clergy to provide spiritual support
• Synthesize and prioritize data from multiple sources to support patient and family responses to health status changes

Required Qualifications

• Recent or upcoming graduation from an accredited nursing program
• Current, valid RN license in state of practice, temporary/interim RN license in state of practice, or compact RN licensure for current state of practice
• Current BLS certification (through American Heart Association, Red Cross, or ASHI) or ability to obtain certification before start date
• No more than 12 months of RN experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN); Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) accepted at select locations
• Professional certification
• Additional related education and/or experience
