Job Description

This position offers a rewarding opportunity for a new graduate registered nurse to begin your nursing career in our 24-bed Adult Behavioral Health Unit. You will work with adults experiencing acute psychiatric conditions in a trauma-informed, patient-centered environment focused on stabilization and healing. As part of a multidisciplinary team, you will provide direct nursing care, participate in unit governance and quality initiatives, and contribute to creating a therapeutic setting that empowers patients to achieve their recovery goals.

Clinical Setting

The Adult Behavioral Health Unit is a 24-bed acute psychiatric care setting dedicated to stabilizing adults with acute mental health conditions. The unit emphasizes trauma-informed care, patient-centered approaches, and evidence-based practices within a collaborative multidisciplinary team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize the nursing process to assess, plan, diagnose, implement, and evaluate nursing care for assigned patients
  • Engage patients and families throughout the continuum of care
  • Monitor patient conditions and adjust care plans as needed
  • Mobilize resources and collaborate with the care team to influence positive care outcomes
  • Administer medications, treatments, and therapies safely according to clinical protocols and procedures
  • Maintain accurate and timely electronic health record (EHR) documentation
  • Demonstrate effective communication, feedback, and conflict resolution skills
  • Foster team collaboration and delegate appropriately to other registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, and unlicensed assistive personnel
  • Participate in unit councils, professional governance, and quality improvement initiatives
  • Apply evidence-based practices to improve care processes
  • Uphold and promote a culture of safety
  • Continuously evaluate patient, team, and unit outcomes and take action as needed
  • Adhere to the ANA Code of Ethics and practice ethical decision-making
  • Respect interdisciplinary roles and contribute to integrated, unbiased patient care
  • Pursue professional development and maintain required certifications
  • Perform physical safety interventions such as patient restraint and verbal de-escalation as needed
  • May be required to float to other units, departments, care areas, or facilities within the designated service area to meet patient care needs
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills appropriate to the age of patients served and understand principles of growth and development across the lifespan

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of a Board of Nursing approved nursing education program
  • Active registered nurse (RN) multi-state compact and/or single-state license with privileges to practice in the state(s) where providing client nursing services
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Strong clinical judgment and critical thinking skills
  • Time management, prioritization, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Proficiency with computer functions including email, electronic health records, and digital platforms
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach above shoulders, and twist frequently throughout the workday
  • Ability to lift and support the weight of 35 pounds in handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies
  • Ability to push/pull with 30 pounds of force and perform a sliding transfer of 150 pounds with a second person present
  • Functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch with ability to use fine hand manipulation skills for IV insertion and other procedures
  • Ability to maneuver foot pedals on carts or machines
  • Ability to respond quickly to changes in patient and/or unit conditions
  • Willingness to wear protective clothing and equipment when exposed to chemical and hazardous waste, blood and body fluids, and communicable disease

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN)

A sign-on bonus is available to applicants who have not received a sign-on bonus from the company for another role within the past 24 months.
