Inova Fairfax Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for the Medical Telemetry Float Pool. This is a PRN position with day and night rotating shifts. As a float pool nurse, you will provide care across multiple units while maintaining the flexibility and autonomy that PRN roles offer.

Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive patient health assessments by interpreting multiple data sets and synthesizing their interrelationships
- Formulate individualized plans of care based on assessment findings and interpret trends in patient populations to achieve best practice
- Support and empower patients and families as they progress through the healthcare continuum from health promotion to end-of-life decisions
- Advocate for patients' rights from the patient and family perspective while providing counsel and acting as a resource to resolve issues
- Anticipate ethical, spiritual, and cultural needs of patients and intervene to maximize patient outcomes
- Coordinate healthcare and alternate services for patient and family transition planning
- Document all patient care activities according to documentation standards and assist healthcare team members with documentation
- Evaluate outcomes of documentation and contribute to related performance improvement initiatives
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams and lead other disciplines to meet desired outcomes
- Act as a clinical resource and serve as a mentor to healthcare team members
- Demonstrate evidence of self-development by obtaining a minimum of six formal contact hours and maintain your own continuing education records
Required Qualifications
- Active Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) license in the Commonwealth of Virginia or an active multi-state RN license
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Minimum one year of experience as a Registered Nurse
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or Associate's Degree in Nursing
Education Requirements
If you hold an Associate's Degree in Nursing, you must complete a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing within five years of your start date. Within two years of hire, you will need to meet with your nurse leader to identify an accredited school, provide a written plan with your anticipated BSN completion date, and submit a review of transcripts indicating required prerequisites and timeline for coursework.
Licenses and Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required upon start if assigned to a Critical Care unit
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required within six months of hire if assigned to a Pediatric unit
Preferred Qualifications
- Two or more years of recent experience in Medical Surgical, Telemetry, Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU), or Progressive Care Unit (PCU) nursing
