The opportunity

Job Description

Starr Regional Medical Center is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for the Long Term Care Unit in Etowah, Tennessee. This is a per diem (PRN) position with varied scheduling. You will provide compassionate, personalized care to long-term care residents while developing strong connections with patients and their families in a supportive, team-focused environment.

Clinical Setting

The Long Term Care Unit at Starr Regional Medical Center is a 118-bed acute hospital that has served the Athens and Etowah, Tennessee community for over 50 years. You will work in a long-term care setting focused on resident-centered care and advocacy.

Responsibilities

  • Perform initial and ongoing assessments of patient condition
  • Establish and implement plans of care appropriate to identified problems, involving patients according to their capabilities and desires
  • Supervise and mentor nursing and support staff during assigned shifts
  • Assist in determining staffing levels and assignments based on staff availability, abilities, census, patient acuity, and work/patient flow
  • Provide direct patient care as needed
  • Float between staff to assist with problem-solving
  • Take patient assignments to meet staffing needs
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of patient care and identify issues affecting desired outcomes
  • Respond to complaints about patient care and related services through established channels
  • Perform role-specific duties including entering orders, performing admissions or discharges, and coordinating transfers
  • Ensure staff has necessary equipment and supplies to provide safe, quality patient care

Required Qualifications

  • Active Tennessee RN license (single-state or compact). If relocating, licensure must be updated to the new Primary State of Residence before employment begins.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required at time of hire
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required within 6 months of hire or department transfer
  • Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action

Education

  • Associate's degree required
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
