Job Description

Inova Fair Oaks Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for the Labor and Delivery Unit on the night shift. This full-time position offers the opportunity to provide skilled, compassionate care to patients during labor, delivery, and postpartum care in a nationally recognized healthcare system.

Clinical Setting

You will work in the Labor and Delivery Unit at Inova Fair Oaks Hospital, consistently ranked as a national healthcare leader in safety, quality, and patient experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide skilled, compassionate care and coordinate patient care
  • Collaborate with patients, families, and the healthcare team
  • Deliver patient and family-centered care in a holistic manner
  • Respect diversity and integrate knowledge, skills, and experience to meet patient needs
  • Utilize effective communication, teamwork, and clinical decision-making to achieve optimal patient outcomes
  • Conduct health assessments and formulate individualized care plans
  • Advocate for patients' rights and resolve issues to ensure quality outcomes
  • Coordinate care across disciplines, ensuring effective transitions
  • Document patient care activities and assist team members
  • Evaluate care processes and adjust plans based on patient progress
  • Make clinical decisions based on data, experience, and intuition
  • Foster cooperation and respect among clinical disciplines
  • Guide staff in assessing patient learning needs and outcomes
  • Serve as a clinical resource, preceptor, and mentor, and supervise patient care activities
  • Utilize care delivery standards, integrating communication, technology, and collaboration
  • Pursue ongoing professional development and maintain Continuing Education Records
  • Contribute to performance improvement initiatives and evaluate clinical outcomes

Schedule

  • Full-time Night Shift: 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM
  • 3 twelve-hour shifts per week
  • 16 hours of on-call time in a 6-week period
  • One major and one minor holiday per 6-week period
  • Four weekend shifts in a 6-week period
  • Additional scheduling requirements include weekends, holidays, and on-call hours

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited school of nursing. If you hold an Associate's Degree in Nursing (ADN), you must complete a BSN within 5 years of the start date
  • One year of experience as a Registered Nurse in a critical care setting or completion of a critical care fellowship
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Registered Nurse, or an active multi-state Registered Nurse license
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification from the American Heart Association required upon start
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required within 6 months of hire

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two years of recent Registered Nurse experience in an inpatient Labor and Delivery Unit
  • Proficiency in Epic
