Registered Nurse (RN) Infection Preventionist

This position is responsible for evaluating the quality of resident care and outcomes related to Healthcare Acquired Infections (HAI) and Community Acquired Infections (CAI) in a post-acute care facility. The RN Infection Preventionist serves as the on-site infection prevention and control resource, monitoring compliance with infection control standards and providing education to staff, residents, and families.

Responsibilities

• Collect, prepare, and analyze HAI data and present infection data with recommendations for action
• Monitor associate compliance with infection control standards through use of barriers and infection prevention measures
• Serve as the designated associate responsible for monitoring Public Health Advisories from local, state, and federal agencies including the CDC
• Serve as the on-site Infection Prevention and Control coordinator for COVID-19 prevention and response activities in accordance with current CDC recommendations
• Develop and maintain accountability for the Antibiotic Stewardship Program
• Prepare and present education for staff, residents, and families
• Implement and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures of the Infection Prevention and Control Program
• Maintain current knowledge of infection control trends, methodologies, and employee health practices
• Serve as a resource to all departments and personnel
• Make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action
• Perform work within the scope of your RN license

Clinical Setting

This is an on-site position at a post-acute care facility. You must work at the physical facility and may not perform infection prevention work at a separate location such as a corporate office or affiliated short-term acute care facility.

Required Qualifications

• Nursing diploma, associate's degree, or bachelor's degree in nursing
• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing, maintained throughout employment
• CPR certification upon hire or obtained during orientation, with current certification maintained during employment
• Specialized Infection Prevention and Control training beyond initial professional training or education prior to assuming the role
• Knowledge of Infection Prevention and Control practices and procedures as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines governing nursing functions in post-acute care facilities
• Proficiency in all applicable competency areas
• Ability to maintain professional working relationships with associates and vendors
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of proprietary and confidential information
• Understanding and adherence to company policies including harassment and compliance procedures
• Integrity and professionalism in adhering to the Code of Conduct with completion of mandatory compliance training

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience with geriatrics
• Certifications or training per state requirements (e.g., Certified TB Nurse)

Additional Requirements

If a facility's resident population changes, you should re-evaluate your knowledge and skills and may need to obtain additional training for the change in the facility's scope of care.
