Registered Nurse (RN) II - Cardiac Cath Lab

Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) II for the Cardiac Catheterization Lab. This full-time procedural nursing position provides direct patient care to diverse patient populations undergoing cardiac catheterization procedures. You will work four 10-hour shifts per week from 6:45 AM to 5:15 PM, plus on-call duties.

As an RN II, you will function at the Competent to Proficient stage of clinical practice, conducting nursing assessments, assisting with exams and treatment, providing patient education, and maintaining medical records. You will manage patients with varied and complex cardiac needs, demonstrating clinical competence in patient care delivery, technology use, medication administration, procedure assistance, and emergency management. You will communicate and collaborate with physicians and the interprofessional health care team to coordinate compassionate, efficient, quality care and achieve desired treatment outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care effectively and efficiently to patients with varied and complex cardiac needs
• Conduct nursing assessments and assist with exams, treatment, and procedures in the cardiac catheterization lab
• Administer medications and manage emergencies with clinical competence
• Develop, update, and communicate plans of care in partnership with patients, families, and the interprofessional team
• Advocate for patients and families to identify and resolve clinical and ethical concerns
• Provide patient teaching based on learning needs and evaluate comprehension
• Communicate and collaborate with physicians and interprofessional team members to facilitate coordinated care
• Monitor and maintain patient rights and safety
• Participate in or lead unit and shared governance initiatives
• Serve as charge nurse or preceptor to students or new employees as assigned
• Contribute to service line or hospital-wide initiatives in partnership with management
• Identify areas for practice improvement using research-based evidence
• Report near misses and collaborate on quality and safety improvements
• Manage time effectively, document care timely, and minimize unnecessary overtime
• Contribute to meeting department financial targets through efficiency and decreased length of stay

Required Qualifications

• Graduate of an education program approved by the credentialing body for nursing
• Twelve months of registered nurse experience in a healthcare environment
• Active RN license from Texas Board of Nursing or PSV Compact Licensure (permanent Texas license must be obtained within 60 days if establishing Texas residency)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or Instructor certification from the American Heart Association
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification or Instructor certification from the American Heart Association (must be obtained within 4 months)
• Proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English necessary to perform essential job functions, especially regarding patient or employee safety
• Strong assessment, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and role components
• Ability to function independently and exercise clinical judgment
• Proficient time management skills
• Working knowledge of Microsoft products including Outlook

Preferred Qualifications

• Magnet recognition certification from ANCC
