Registered Nurse (RN) GI GU Surgical Unit- Full Time Nights

Texas Health Fort Worth is hiring a Registered Nurse for the GI GU Surgical Unit, a brand-new unit in the Justin Tower at a MAGNET-designated Level I Trauma Center. This full-time night position provides nursing care to post-operative patients recovering from complex gastro-intestinal, urology, and colorectal surgeries, with an average length of stay of approximately five days. The unit will initially operate with 20 beds, with plans to expand to 36 beds later in the year.

Clinical Setting

You will work on a newly opened surgical unit specializing in general surgery with a focus on GI, GU, and colorectal procedures. The unit is part of a MAGNET facility and Level I Trauma Center, ensuring access to comprehensive resources and a commitment to nursing excellence.

Responsibilities

• Deliver direct patient care utilizing the nursing process: assess patients, plan care, implement interventions, and evaluate effectiveness
• Provide post-operative nursing care to patients recovering from complex gastro-intestinal, urology, and colorectal surgeries
• Incorporate age-specific safety and infection control measures into patient care
• Initiate action to meet patient and significant others' information needs
• Maintain continuity of patient care across shifts, between hospitals, and during out-of-hospital transfers

Schedule

Full-time position working three 12-hour night shifts per week from 6:45 p.m. to 7:15 a.m. Schedule includes rotating weekends and holidays. Team members may be placed on call for regularly scheduled shifts in response to census fluctuations. Self-scheduling is available to support work-life balance.

Required Qualifications

• Associate Degree in Nursing or Diploma in Nursing
• Current RN licensure or compact licensure recognized by the Texas Board of Nursing at time of hire
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification prior to providing independent patient care, maintained quarterly
• Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training within 90 days of hire
• Minimum one year of experience as a registered nurse or completion of an RN Residency program

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
• Two or more years of medical-surgical nursing experience in an acute care setting
