Registered Nurse (RN) – ED Observation / Float-Rochester, NY

This position offers the opportunity to work in a fast-paced Emergency Department Observation Unit providing care for patients requiring short-term observation to determine admission versus discharge. You will care for an adult patient population with high turnover and diverse acuity levels, managing approximately 20–27 patient admissions daily with an average length of stay of approximately 27 hours.

Clinical Setting

The observation unit operates 24/7 with provider coverage and serves a mix of observation and admitted boarding patients. This is a high-acuity environment requiring strong clinical decision-making skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced setting.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct care for patients in observation and ED boarding status
• Monitor and assess patients for changes in condition
• Administer medications and treatments per protocol
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams for patient care planning
• Support safe discharge or transition to inpatient admission

Required Qualifications

• Active New York State RN license
• Minimum 2 years of Medical/Surgical nursing experience
• Telemetry experience
• BLS certification (American Heart Association)

Preferred Qualifications

• NIHSS certification
• Experience in observation or ED settings

Schedule

• Rotating shifts including Days, Evenings, and Nights
• Weekends, holidays, on-call, and callback required
• May float based on unit needs

Compensation and Contract

• Pay: $2,300–$2,500 per week
• Start Date: April 13, 2026
• Contract: Through July 11, 2026 with option to extend
