Oceans Behavioral Hospital Waco is seeking a Registered Nurse for day shifts to provide leadership and direct patient care in our inpatient psychiatric setting. You will work with adults and seniors managing anxiety, depression, and other mental health conditions, utilizing evidence-based therapeutic approaches to support long-term wellness.

Clinical Setting

This is an inpatient psychiatric hospital serving adult and senior populations. You will work in a fast-paced, high-stress environment where you may encounter unpredictable patient behavior, disagreeable odors or sights, and multiple interruptions. The role requires spending approximately 90% or more of time indoors.

Responsibilities

  • Assume primary leadership accountability for milieu management and direct the patient care activities of other nursing staff
  • Assess patients using the nursing process to develop individualized plans of care, implement interventions, and evaluate outcomes
  • Identify risk levels, precautions, and expected outcomes; prescribe interventions and conduct ongoing assessment from admission through discharge
  • Initiate medical and psychiatric crisis intervention to stabilize patients and ensure their well-being
  • Demonstrate knowledge of psychiatric disorders and implement appropriate nursing interventions to progress patients toward wellness
  • Administer medications safely as prescribed, provide medication education, and recognize signs and symptoms of adverse drug reactions
  • Review, revise, and update medical records within facility guidelines; transcribe and implement physician orders accurately
  • Document care, progress, and patient responses in medical records thoroughly and concisely
  • Communicate incomplete assignments and current client needs to staff to ensure continuity of care
  • Implement staff assignments and delegate duties using appropriate judgment; function as an advocate for patient needs and safety
  • Float among various clinical services as qualified and competent; perform other duties and projects as assigned
  • Maintain standards of professional nursing practice in accordance with facility policy, Joint Commission standards, and Federal and State regulations

Required Qualifications

  • Current, valid, and active Registered Nurse license in the state of employment (Compact licenses accepted)
  • Minimum Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Ability to adapt to high-stress environments and assess potential for patient escalation
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Critical thinking abilities and ability to apply them for continuous improvement of patient care
  • Self-confidence and ability to think conceptually in leading and directing others
  • Understanding and sensitivity to serve culturally diverse and special needs populations including chronically mentally ill and geriatric patients
  • Basic knowledge of normal physical and emotional development
  • Successfully completed CPR certification
  • Successfully completed an Oceans-approved behavioral health de-escalation program

Preferred Qualifications

  • One year of inpatient hospital experience

Schedule

  • 12-hour rotating day shifts
